Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

GMC has a great opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to manage a wide range of financial responsibilities, with a particular focus on the aviation practice in our Montgomery, AL office. The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of experience and a strong background in accounting, financial reporting, and complex data analysis. You'll play a crucial role in our finance department, handling everything from routine monthly tasks to critical year-end reporting and strategic projects. We're looking for a detail-oriented professional who can not only manage daily operations but also provide valuable insights to support our growth.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Aviation Project Financial Management: Oversee monthly aviation billing, grant management, and grant draw submittals. Lead the annual fiscal year-end (FY) reporting to the FAA, typically in October. Manage weekly aviation collections to ensure timely receipt of invoices.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Conduct monthly analytics on "the tail" to proactively identify and manage key projects. Perform annual CEO.net peer group analytics in January and February.
  • Payroll & Reconciliation: Handle quarterly and year-end payroll reconciliations from ADP. Serve as the backup for payroll processing to other accounting staff.
  • Year-End & Strategic Projects: Execute year-end tasks for multiple companies, a critical period of 6-7 weeks of work. Provide financial support during acquisition closings, including assisting with legal paperwork and schedules. Assist with annual E&O (Errors & Omissions) and P&C (Property & Casualty) insurance applications.
  • Compliance & Administration: Ensure all business licenses for municipalities and Certificates of Authorization at the state level are current.
  • Individual Entities: Manage transactions for the GMC Charitable Foundation.
  • General Ledger & Budgeting: Accounting for vehicle acquisitions and disposals on the General Ledger (GL). Data entry and reporting for project budgets for a specific scale of projects. Other reconciliations as needed for compliance with GAAP reporting standards.  

 Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Experience in year-end closing procedures and financial reporting
