Position Overview
Anno.ai is looking for curious, detail-oriented Acoustic Data Labelers to join our cutting-edge team. In this unique role, you'll become an expert in the acoustic signatures of ocean-going vessels, learning to identify, analyze, and catalog the underwater soundscape that reveals maritime activity above.
Working with live-stream and recorded data from advanced underwater sensors, you'll develop specialized skills in acoustic pattern recognition, transforming raw sonar data into actionable intelligence. Your meticulous labeling and annotation work will directly contribute to breakthrough AI systems that can Detect, Analyze, Relate, Correlate, and Determine vessel types and behaviors.
This isn't your typical data labeling position—you'll be at the forefront of maritime technology, building datasets that power the next generation of underwater surveillance and ocean monitoring systems. Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in underwater acoustic principles: Understand how sound travels underwater and how environmental factors like temperature, salinity, and pressure affect acoustic propagation
- Master SONAR fundamentals: Distinguish between passive broadband and passive narrowband acoustic sources, detections, and signatures
- Navigate the Horizon User Interface: Detect, analyze, relate, correlate, and determine vessel types and characteristics using our specialized platform
- Utilize advanced analytical tools: Leverage built-in features of the Horizon User Interface to enable accurate contact classification in preparation for data labeling
- Apply aural classification techniques: Develop acoustic identification skills through mentorship with real-world experts to enhance labeling precision
- Execute comprehensive data management: Label, annotate, and systematically catalog acoustic contacts based on both aural and visual indicators within the Horizon platform
- Represent Anno.ai’s mission and values in all internal and external engagements
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree in a technical field preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of web analytics tools, various software interfaces, and managing digital data bases, and data entry
- Strong listening skills and ability to distinguish subtle differences in audio patterns and frequencies
- Demonstrated ability to perform precise analysis, methodical work with accuracy over extended periods, and extremely self-motivated learner who can absorb complex technical concepts and apply new knowledge effectively
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for documentation and collaboration with technical experts
- Willingness to learn, interest in acoustics, maritime technology, or related technical fields (experience not required - we'll train the right candidate)
- Employment with Anno.ai is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Experience, Skills & Qualifications (Not required but nice to have)
- Advanced education: Associate's degree in electronics, engineering technology, computer science, or related technical field
- SONAR experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience operating sonar systems in military, commercial, or research environments
- Military acoustic background: Training or experience in acoustics through US Navy submarine, surface warfare, or naval aviation communities
- Maritime operations knowledge: Familiarity with naval vessel classifications, maritime traffic patterns, maritime geography, or oceanographic operations
- Signal processing exposure: Basic understanding of digital signal processing, frequency analysis, or acoustic data interpretation
- Database management: Experience with data cataloging systems, structured databases, or scientific data management protocols
