About the Position
The company is currently seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead and elevate their estimating operations. This is a high-impact leadership role for a seasoned construction professional.
The Chief Estimator will oversee all estimating activities, drive bid strategies, and ensure the accuracy and competitiveness of every proposal. This role is key to the company’s long-term success and growth, providing an exciting opportunity to influence company direction and market positioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the estimating department with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness.
- Review project plans, specs, and documents to develop detailed cost estimates.
- Coordinate subcontractor and supplier solicitations to ensure full scope coverage.
- Prepare and present budgets, bids, and proposals that align with strategic goals.
- Partner with project managers and operations to validate constructability and feasibility.
- Maintain and enhance cost databases, historical data, and estimating tools.
- Mentor and develop junior estimators and support staff.
- Represent the company in client meetings, bid reviews, and negotiations.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform pricing strategies.
Requirements
- 10+ years of construction estimating experience, preferably in site development, utilities, or heavy civil construction.
- Proven leadership experience managing estimating teams and securing projects in the $500K–$20M+ range.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Proficiency with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., Sage, Plan Swift, Insite, or similar).
- In-depth understanding of construction means and methods, regional pricing, and production rates.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Motivated to develop systems, scale operations, and contribute to company growth.
