The Network Engineer will design, analyze, plan, modify, and maintain networks and network components supporting data, voice and/or audio communication activities. They will define project scope and objectives and develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, status reports and project deliverables and conduct project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis. The Network Engineer will provide technical and analytical guidance to enterprise engineering team and enterprise operations and will collaborate with and assist the network architect and engineering team on other engineer team projects and tasks as well as participate in high-level enterprise architecture analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation, and development. They will apply high-level business and technical principles and methods to solve very difficult technical problems to arrive at creative engineering solutions and recommend and take action to direct the analysis and solutions of problems.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate openly and frankly with all internal and external partners, such as Government Engineers, Contractor Engineers, Contractor Operations staff, Management, and 3rd party vendors 
  • Ensure timely delivery of all Engineering Service Requests, removing any obstacles to completing work as scheduled 
  • Perform risk analysis of each Engineering Service Request, and inform all stakeholders of the applicable risks 
  • In coordination with the Network Engineering Team Lead and Government partners, prioritize workload 
  • Provide technical input and guidance on the Networking needs of all software and hardware used in the Corps of Engineers’ environment, and the integration of new Networking products within the Corps of Engineers’ environment 
  • Provide guidance to the enterprise operations on technical solutions and provide Tier 4 support 
  • Provide weekly status reports to the Network Engineering Team Lead 
  • Collaborate with Senior Network Engineers on technical solutions and architecture 
  • Provide technical leadership and collaborative consulting on the Engineering Review Board, and the Change Advisory Board 
  • Continually enhance the performance of the Engineering team, Corps environment and Operational support through continual process improvement, automation, full utilization of existing tool sets, and recommendations for new tools 
  • Develop or analyze requirements in a Requirements Traceability Matrix, design and develop solution options in a Systems Engineering Plan, provide test plans, develop implementation plans including integration with existing systems in the production environment, provide engineering support through transition to operations and “Early Life” of new or upgraded systems/services in production, provide tools, processes and procedures for monitoring/performance measurement, event detection, problem identification and remediation, and troubleshooting assistance as needed after deployment  
  • In collaboration with the Government Engineer, bring proposed changes to the Change Advisory Board 
  • Perform detailed market research, develop Bills of Materials for Government consumption 
  • Report all project status to the associated Government Engineer, Contractor Project Manager, and Engineering Leadership, etc. 
  • Document Network architecture, including network port connectivity, and design choices of the associated applications/services (Low Level Design, High Level Design) 
  • Integrate Network systems into the enterprise Configuration Management Database 
  • Provide secure, reliable, and high performing configurations of the Network environments 

 

 

Education (Required): 

  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience 

 

Experience (Required): 

  • Working technical knowledge of network control protocols (QOS, PfR, PoE, NTP, DHCP), network management protocols (CDP, FTP, TFTP, SNMP) and security protocols (SSH, HTTPS, AAA, IPSec) 
  • Strong knowledge of IP communication and routing is required (OSPF, BGP) 
  • Understanding of WAN/LAN transport technologies (Ethernet, DMVPN, MPLS) 

 

 

Certifications (Required): 

 

  • CISSP or CASP certification
  • Cisco professional-level certification (CCNP)

 

 

Preferred Experience:

 

  • Experience with enterprise WAN deployments 
  • Experience working in a DoD environment 
  • Experience with DOD Architect Framework (DODAF) 
  • Experience with F5 
  • Experience with IPv6 
  • Experience with Cloud connectivity 
  • Experience with NSX
