Salary Range: $31.25 - $36.06/hour; $65,000 - $75,000/year

Description (Reason Position Exists): 

 

The Training Specialist plays a role on the Human Resources team. This position is responsible for training compliance, Learning Management System (LMS) Administration, presenting at new employee orientation, and developing training programs. This position ensures trainings are aligned with licensing and funding requirements, internal policies and procedures, and our trauma responsive philosophy.

 

The position will utilize eTraining authoring tools to create on-demand trainings; record and edit webinars; and use adult learning theory to create trainings that have measurable and positive outcomes. The Training Specialist will present training materials in an engaging way to keep learners’ attention and focus. The Training Specialist will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop trainings. This position will develop and maintain an annual training calendar that includes compliance trainings; trainings on internal and external policies; trainings on internal and external procedures; and more.

 

This position does not have direct reports. 

 

Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

New Employee Orientation

  • Lead and present new employee orientation.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to ensure all mandatory training elements are included in the presentation. 
  • Provide a welcoming and engaging presentation.

 

Curriculum Development

  • Create trainings based on Minnesota statutes and federal regulations, ensuring all statutory requirements are captured in the trainings.
  • Ensure learning occurs and behaviors are aligned with the training expectations; write tests, knowledge checks, and evaluations that utilize adult learning theories.       
  • Create trainings based on internal and external policies and procedures, ensuring all requirements captured in the trainings.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to develop in-house trainings.
  • Create trainings in a variety of formats, including eTrainings, live webinars, recorded webinars, and in-person.
  • Develop eTrainings using instructional design skills, SMEs, storyboarding best practices, recorded voiceover and/or AI voiceover, attestation statements, and package the final product as Scorm files.

 

Maintain a Training Program

  • Ensure compliance with DHS, DOC, and all federal and state statutes and funding streams.
  • Stay current on training trends, developments, and best practices in the field of human services.
  • Maintain the training library, ensuring the content is current and compliant with statutes and licensing agencies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with evidence-based trauma responsive care partners to provide trainings that meet the agencies current needs, future desires, and budgeting restrictions. 
  • Create new training opportunities and curriculum with limited funding. 

 

Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator

  • Upload Scorm files into the LMS.
  • Assign trainings and ensure trainings are completed on time to meet compliance requirements.
  • Audit training records for data integrity.
  • Audit the training library and deactivate outdated trainings.
  • Generate training reports to monitor completion data and overdue training data; communicate with appropriate managers to ensure trainings are completed.
  • Respond in a timely manner to training record requests from managers and auditors.
  • Partner with training vendors to provide training opportunities through the 180 Degree LMS.
  • Offer technical assistance to staff, monitor logins into the LMS, monitor LMS engagement and develop plans to increase engagement.

  • Update the presentation materials to ensure accuracy.
  • Consistently provide an inspiring orientation that welcomes new employees to the organization.
  • Maintain open communication with Human Resources and hiring managers to ensure new employees are prepared for onsite orientation.
    1. Develop training courses and programs that are engaging and result in knowledge transfer
  • Understand instructional design principles for adult learners.
  • Create trainings in a variety of formats, including live in-person, live webinars, eTrainings, and recorded webinars using industry-best practices.
  • Work with internal SMEs to create robust trainings that meet the needs of the employees while being compliant with state and federal statutes, agencies, and funding sources.
    1. Maintain a training program that captures training requirements for the organization
  • Employees are compliant on all training requirements.
  • Utilize training needs analysis to prioritize training requests.
  • Partner with external vendors to provide trainings that are within budgetary requirements and statutory regulations, and meet the needs of the organization and employees.
    1. Maintain the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Courses are assigned to the correct audience within the expected timeframe.
  • Training reports are generated and the data is communicated appropriately to ensure training compliance across the organization.
  • Outdated courses are deactivated, new courses are added, and existing courses are updated accordingly. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, teaching, or related field and 3+ years’ experience as a Training Specialist. Additional licensure desirable. 
  • Experience in social services or human services field. 
  • Foundational knowledge of DHS and DOC statutes highly preferred.
  • Engaging presenter in a variety of settings including in-person, virtual, and eTraining.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience as a LMS Administrator.
  • Maintain current knowledge for training in social services and areas related to the field including trauma informed care, harm reduction, and cultural responsiveness. 
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to commute to various 180 Degrees locations for meetings or trainings, including the Minneapolis location for new employee orientation.
  • Ability to clear a Department of Human Services background screening.

  • Excellent organization with attention to detail and time management.

Non-Profit location: This position is in person 4 days a week at our St. Paul location and one day remote. The Training Specialist leads New Employee Orientation at the Minneapolis location. This position may present trainings at other 180 Degrees locations to meet the needs of the organization.
