This is a full-time position under the general direction and supervision of the Planning Manager. This position is responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks including; plat and plan review, ordinance writing, interpreting state laws and codes, and performing research for projects and applications. The position assists the general public with planning, zoning and development concerns and inquiries; and provides staff support to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and the Capital Improvements Advisory Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide outstanding service to internal staff and customers.
• Provide general case management and review for compliance with ordinances, regulations and plans for development applications including site plans, rezoning, specific use permits, variances, plats and other proposals..
• Prepare agendas and public notices for the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment and Capital Improvements Advisory Committee.
• Prepare and present detailed staff reports for development applications to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment and City Council.
• Researches plans and reports for compliance with zoning and subdivision regulations.
• Performs research necessary for new developments.
• Organizes and facilitates weekly Staff Development Review meetings and other team meetings.
• Interprets and applies applicable state and local codes, ordinances and regulations.
• Drafts memoranda, letters and reports related to research findings; creates graphics to display research findings; assists other staff members with graphical presentation materials as needed.
• Responds to department requests for information; answers questions and responds to inquiries from the development community and the general public with regard to planning, zoning and development regulations.
• Attends Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, Capital Improvements Advisory Committee, City Council meetings and other community meetings as necessary.
• Research, review and prepare ordinance amendments to the City’s Unified Development Code.
• Assists in developing long range plans for community and development issues.
• Assists in preparing, reviewing and updating miscellaneous division forms and maps.
• Assists in developing strategies to promote economic and community development for efficient land use consistent with community goals.
• Assists with special projects as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Planning Manager, Director of Planning & Community Development and Deputy City Manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• A bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or a related field.
• Two (2) years of planning experience and training providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; or a master’s degree in planning or a related field in lieu of experience.
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certificate is preferred.
