The City of Murphy Police Department seeks to add an Animal Care Technician (Part-Time) to its dynamic team! As our Animal Care Technician, under general supervision, you will provide care for shelter animals, including feeding, watering, exercising, grooming, and cleaning cages and kennels. You will also monitor and observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or aggression as well as provide customer support as needed.
Schedule Commitment
This is a FLSA non-exempt position that works a part-time rotating shift, including weekends and holidays.
Pay Plan
This opportunity is non-exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #23.
The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid-range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.

Position Duties
- Assist customers with animal adoptions, answer questions, and escort as needed.
- Receive, evaluate, and intake animals left at the shelter according to established procedures.
- Provide daily care for all animals, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring behavior and health.
- Report animal conditions and implement precautionary measures to prevent disease.
- Mix and apply deodorizers and disinfectants according to label directions.
- Clean and disinfect animal pens, floors, and related areas regularly.
- Assist with euthanasia, disposal of deceased animals, and maintenance of pathological incinerator.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance to shelter facilities and equipment.
- Provide office support, data entry, report preparation, and answering incoming calls.
- Respond to public requests for deceased animal removal from streets, homes, and veterinary clinics.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds (animals, feed, cages, carcasses).
- Stand, bend, and pursue stray animals when necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness of offices, restrooms, storage areas, counters, and windows.
- Maintain courteous and effective communication with the public, other City employees, and officials.
- Identify, report, and correct unsafe conditions within the shelter and its grounds.
- Work at shelter events and during nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

- 6 months of experience working with animals in a shelter, kennel, veterinary clinic, or related setting
- Experience with facility cleaning and maintenance
- Customer service experience in a public-facing role
