Who are we looking for?
At GHD we are looking for a new Graduate Project Controls Specialist to join the Power and Energy Services team at our Baton Rouge office. In this role you will prepare project cost, forecast, estimating, tracking, analysis, and reports. Maintain internal labor and project costs to allocated budget. Perform cost analysis and advises project leaders on cost over-runs. Work with computerized databases to manage project changes and minimize costs. Oversee and generate project-based invoices. Review and improve cost control systems to streamline and create more efficient cost analysis and reporting mechanisms. Support project team with labor projections, reallocations, and general cost reporting.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Document Preparation: Organize and prepare complex documents using a variety of applications for technology devices, such as standard office software. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing data for special reports.
- Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data related to projects, including cost estimates, schedules, and progress reports. Identifying trends and deviations to support data-driven decision-making.
- Cost Accounting: Evaluate costs and identify variances or opportunities to improve profitability for more senior colleagues. Support & Learn to Develop Total Installed Cost (TIC) project estimates of varying class levels in Aspen Tech.
- Cost Calculation and Analysis: Prepare and analyze accurate costings for construction, maintenance, or improvement works. Will include calculations covering materials, quantities, and labor time. Monitor project timelines, identify delays, and work with project teams to implement corrective actions.
- Cost Price Calculation: Work independently to collate and analyze cost price and/or project data using data modeling tools and algorithms to calculate cost process and project estimates.
- Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Operational Compliance: Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
- Cost Reduction: Contribute to reviewing costs, generate ideas for cost reduction, and contribute to the implementation of cost saving initiatives. Tracking project expenses and ensuring adherence to budget constraints; prepare cost forecasts, variance analysis, and cost reporting.
- Project Reporting and Review: Contribute to project and program reporting and review by organizing meetings and by preparing project and/or program papers (e.g., agendas, reports, and presentations). Development and maintenance of project schedules mostly in Primavera P6 and occasionally in Microsoft Projects.
What you will bring to the Team
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level in Contruction Management or related field.
Experience
- General Experience: 0-2 years of experience in related field
- At least minimal exposure to Primavera P6 or similar scheduling software.
- Has taken at least one cost estimating class at the collegiate level or trade school.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Basic understanding of construction and estimating principles is a plus.
