JOB OVERVIEW 


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Project leader.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Projects, this position is responsible for the full project lifecycle, ensuring adherence to Project Management and Contract Management governance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve project objectives at sites such as Lennox, Campbellford, and Gravenhurst. The Project leader leads, coordinates, and administers the organization, execution, and completion of assigned multidiscipline projects within project portfolios, with a focus on thermal and hydroelectric facilities.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Organize, coordinate, and control all stages of project management from initiation to closeout, ensuring compliance with established governance and procedures
  • Utilize approved project management processes for phase-gating, integration, scope, schedule, cost, change control, estimating, communications, reporting, and risk management
  • Ensure delivery of project objectives and commitments within targets for safety, quality, budget, and schedule
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate project documentation, including background information, scope reviews, business case submissions, charters, work breakdown structures (WBS), estimates, schedules, risk management plans, and contract specifications
  • Oversee the procurement process: prepare bid packages, evaluate tenders, and make purchasing recommendations; coordinate contract management throughout all stages
  • Lead and facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, construction, and operations teams to ensure alignment and progress
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on project cost, schedule, and risks; manage changes and resolve issues to achieve deliverables
  • Supervise and direct cross-functional teams as required; assign and review work, provide guidance, and ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, or a related field; supplemented by post-secondary courses in project management and business economics, or equivalent education and experience
  • Over 6 years of progressive project management experience, including developing requirements, cost estimating, contract bidding and award, project execution, and closeout—preferably in generating stations or similar heavy industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the five primary project phases (Identification, Initiation, Definition, Execution, Closeout) and project management principles
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, forecasting, commercial contracting methods, construction methods, codes and standards, quality assurance, and health and safety
  • Proven ability to manage conflicting priorities of scope, schedule, cost, and quality in complex, multi-contract, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to facilitate objectives and satisfy stakeholder requirements
  • Experience and knowledge related to environmental protection and associated concerns
  • Familiarity with thermal and hydroelectric facility operations and construction, with willingness to travel to and support projects at Lennox (Bath, ON), Campbellford, and Gravenhurst, ON.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
