Brief Description
The Senior Director of Brand & Marketing (B&M Sr. Dir.) for the Leadership Formation Division (LFD) of Fuller Theological Seminary serves as the senior-most leader for LFD’s brand and marketing functions and the head of the B&M Center of Excellence. The B&M Sr. Dir. provides strategic direction of LFD’s complete brand and marketing capability to meet LFD’s annual and long-term mission goals. Leveraging deep functional expertise, business acumen, and knowledge of LFD’s service offerings and target audiences, the B&M Sr. Dir. determines LFD’s optimal brand identity, strategy, and architecture and marketing strategy to drive audience awareness, engagement, and growth. The B&M Sr. Dir. leads brand consistency and relevance while balancing the branding and marketing needs of all LFD Centers. As a member of the LFD Lead Team, the B&M Sr. Dir. is a key contributor to the strategic direction of LFD.
About the Leadership Formation Division
The Leadership Formation Division (LFD) at Fuller Seminary consists of six Centers (Brehm Center, Center for Spiritual Formation, Church Planting Initiative, De Pree Center, Fuller Youth Institute, and Thrive Center), the TENx10 Collaboration initiative, as well as FULLER Equip (an online non-degree training platform for Christian leaders) that collectively provide research-based resources and training to those who want to learn from Fuller, but are not currently pursuing a degree. Collectively, LFD serves approximately 300,000 learners per year and has approximately 80 full-time staff.
The B&M Sr. Dir. reports directly to the Chief of Leadership Formation.
Essential Functions:
The B&M Sr. Dir. has four primary areas of responsibility:
B&M Vision and Strategy for the LFD Lead Team
Brand Strategy Development and Execution
Marketing Strategy Development and Execution
B&M CoE Leadership and Capability Development
B&M Vision and Strategy for the LFD Lead Team
Contribute to the creation of LFD’s vision and strategy, with special attention to B&M, in collaboration with the full LFD Lead Team.
Contribute to the creation of LFD’s annual and long-term planning, with special attention to B&M, to meet critical mission, income, organizational, and people goals.
Collaborate with other members of the LFD Lead Team to measure the ongoing effectiveness and performance of LFD in achieving the mission and determining appropriate course corrections as needed.
Brand Strategy Development and Execution
Develop and steward the creation of an effective collective LFD brand identity that aligns to LFD’s mission, vision, values, and target market value.
Develop brand strategy and brand architecture to enable LFD and its Centers to create lasting and compelling connections with LFD and Center audiences and stakeholders (e.g., learners, partners, donors, existing and potential employees, etc.).
Drive operationalization of the brand, brand strategy, and brand architecture across appropriate channels including stewardship of brand guidelines, standards, and assets. Establish systems and processes to protect the consistency and integrity of the LFD brand.
Liaise with key web and digital strategy and architecture team members to ensure appropriate brand expression across web and digital channels and assets.
Liaise with Fuller Theological (FTS) brand and marketing team to ensure appropriate alignment with overall FTS brand strategy and architecture.
Monitor brand awareness and effectiveness using appropriate metrics, data, and analytics best practices.
Provide branding consultation, thought leadership, best practices, resources, and tools as needed across LFD.
Steward relevant agency, vendor or external partner relationships including contracting as needed.
Marketing Strategy Development and Execution
Develop and steward the creation of an effective collective LFD marketing strategy that aligns to LFD’s mission, vision, values, brand identity, target market value, and income targets.
Partner with Center leaders to translate Center vision and priorities to effective marketing strategies and plans.
Communicate effectively with diverse audiences through compelling storytelling and engaging content. Drive design and operationalization of marketing campaigns and promotions leveraging an appropriate mix of channels and media to reach LFD and Center audiences and stakeholders.
Drive market research objectives and activities to inform overall marketing strategy and specific campaigns and promotions.
Liaise with key web and digital strategy and architecture team members in design and execution of campaigns and promotions across web and digital channels and assets.
Oversee development and production of marketing materials and assets.
Liaise with FTS brand and marketing team to ensure appropriate alignment with overall FTS marketing strategy as appropriate.
Monitor marketing campaign and promotion effectiveness using appropriate metrics, data, and analytics best practices.
Provide marketing consultation, thought leadership, best practices, resources, and tools as needed across LFD.
Steward relevant agency, vendor, or external partner relationships including contracting as needed.
Brand & Marketing CoE Leadership
Identify and define the B&M CoE’s core services, capabilities, and competencies.
Lead and manage the CoE to ensure effective:
Coordination and collaboration with LFD and Center leaders to enable awareness of brand and marketing needs across LFD
In-take and prioritization processes
Management of CoE resources and capacity to enable timely completion of services and deliverables
Operations, systems, processes, tools, and resources.
Provide ongoing leadership and management for Brand & Marketing CoE staff to support team and individual effectiveness.
Mentor, coach, and develop CoE staff in alignment with LFD’s annual and long-term mission objectives, people plans, and the individual’s developmental needs.
Provide brand and marketing consultation and subject matter expertise as needed across LFD
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, marketing, or public relations required. Master’s degree preferred
10+ years of relevant B2B and B2C marketing experience. Strong preference for candidates with experience in non-profit, ministry, and/or seminary contexts
5+ years experience leading a multicultural team, with strong relational skills and ability to build relationships, manage teams, and work effectively with diverse staff
Demonstrated excellence in leading marketing efforts, activities, and messaging that reflect inclusion and equity in a diverse setting
Proven experience designing and executing impactful, innovative, and global integrated marketing campaigns. In particular, provide expertise in the areas of brand development and market research.
Ability to hire top talent and shown success in team building, day-to-day management, mentorship, and coaching
Exceptional interpersonal and coalition-building skills, including listening and interpretive skills; strong consultative skills; and expertise in working effectively and creatively with a wide variety of individuals and groups
Experience using industry leading tools and platforms such as SalesForce, Google Ads, Tableau etc.
Demonstrated ability to perform key marketing activities including media buying (including banner ads, print ads, digital radio, eblasts, and Google AdWords); product and pricing research; podcasting, webinars, and livestream; email marketing; go-to-market strategy implementation; and campaign performance reporting.
Ability to integrate a cohesive LFD branding and marketing with the dynamics of multiple center teams with distinct teams, brands, and specific audiences
Experience providing project status reports and presentations to senior leadership
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Passionate about new and emerging media trends and practices

This position is available for remote work within the United States. Subject to payroll state approval by Fuller Theological Seminary
Pay Scale
Annual salary the seminary expects to pay: $90,000 - $105,000 annually USD
