POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Community Engagement serves as the primary regional leader for outreach, partnerships, and community engagement efforts. This role strengthens the connection between Akin and the communities it serves, building strong local relationships, increasing participation in programs, enriching service referrals, building trust, and promoting Akin’s offerings. This role ensures that each regional office operates as a trusted hub for families, providers, and community partners -- grounded in Akin’s values of Advocacy, Audacity, Commitment, and Relationships.

           

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Community Partnerships and Local Leadership

  • Lead strategic outreach efforts to engage families, caregivers, and local organizations in Akin’s programs and services.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, social service agencies, community groups, faith-based groups, and local businesses.
  • Represent Akin at community events, coalitions, and public forums to build awareness and strengthen local networks.

Program Engagement & Access

  • Drive enrollment and participation in regional programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with program directors to align outreach efforts with service offerings, ensuring families have access to needed supports.
  • Track participation metrics, ensuring growth goals and impact objectives are met.

Regional Office Presence & Culture

  • Serve as the primary leader on site at the regional office, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and family-centered environment for staff and community members.
  • Support regional staff coordination, internal communications, and alignment with organizational priorities.

Data, Reporting & Accountability

  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, partnerships, and participant engagement.
  • Provide regular reports on outreach impact, partnership development, and community needs.
  • Use data insights to adapt outreach strategies and inform organizational decision-making.

Collaboration & Cross-Regional Learning

  • Collaborate with other Community Engagement Managers/Directors across regions to share best practices and coordinate statewide initiatives.
  • Partner with Akin’s leadership team to integrate community voice into program development and advocacy efforts.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in outreach and engagement strategies.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding in the provision of services to a diverse socioeconomic and cultural population
  • Strong human-relations skills to communicate effectively with Akin staff and management
  • Strong collaboration and partnership development skills
  • Skills and experience in community engagement and working with a wide range of community partners
  • Skills and experience in working with local, state, and federal policymakers
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to evaluate trade-offs and risks to make effective decisions
  • Ability to effectively lead staff; delegate assignments to indirect reports as needed
  • Ability to lead/participate in regional organizing and/or serve as a regional liaison

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This job is performed in a professional office environment. The following list is representative of the work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:

Hybrid work is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace but cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Hybrid work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard; occasionally to reach, stoop and kneel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, public health, communications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or partnership development.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams or regional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse communities, and familiarity with the principles of Accessibility, Inclusion and Belonging.
  • Ability to use data to track progress, inform decisions, and measure impact.
  • A valid driver’s license and a favorable driving record, with no more than three violations within the past three years

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual
  • Master’s degree in human services, public health, communications, or related field
  • Experience with and knowledge of the Spokane region including the landscape of families, community partners, and organizations that support family and community well-being is strongly preferred

 

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS: 

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive pay, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position.
The target starting pay for this position is $92,270-$115,333, typically within the first half of the range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant’s pay history into account.
The range above allows our employees room for growth during their tenure in the position.
