Akira Technologies is seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist – Continuous Monitoring (Journeyman) to join our team supporting the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC). NAVFAC builds and maintains sustainable facilities, delivers utilities, and services, and requires secure integration of facility-related control systems (FRCS). This role supports NAVFAC’s Cyber Planning and Response Center (CPRC), providing defensive cyber operations (DCO), continuous monitoring, and end-to-end cyber defense capabilities.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in information systems security engineering, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks to ensure NAVFAC systems remain secure, resilient, and mission-ready.

This is an onsite position supporting NAVFAC in Norfolk, VA.  Security clearance of Secret or higher is required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Validate and verify system security requirements; establish security designs for complex, distributed systems.
  • Identify and implement appropriate information security architectures to ensure consistent application of security policies.
  • Recommend and develop technical solutions, standards, and improvements for system security architecture.
  • Perform system assessments against DoD compliance policies; recommend and implement security enhancements.
  • Support continuous monitoring, risk assessments, security control assessments, and incident response.
  • Communicate effectively with program managers, government stakeholders, and technical teams regarding critical security issues.
  • Conduct vulnerability testing using DoD-approved tools (e.g., ACAS, Nessus, NMAP, Wireshark).
  • Maintain secure configurations across desktop and server operating systems.

Job Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in Information Systems Security Engineering, Information Assurance, or IT security.
  • Solid understanding of security practices, policies, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience applying Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Hands-on experience with security scanning and analysis tools (ACAS, Nessus, NMAP, Wireshark).
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments.

Desired Skills & Certifications

  • DoD 8570 compliance: IASAE Level II or III.
  • CISSP or ISSEP certification.
  • Experience with penetration testing tools and scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of encryption techniques, secure communication protocols, and enterprise security architectures.
  • Experience developing or auditing integrated security services and incident response processes.


Salary Range:  $75,000 to $115,000

Akira’s pay range for this position considers various factors including skills, years of experience, training, licenses, certifications, alignment with market data, and internal equity in the organization.  This pay range estimate is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary, which Akira believes to be done in good faith in compliance with local laws.  The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
