Red Spot currently has an opening for a Canada - Technical Service Rep (Field) to join our Technical Service Team based in Ontario, Canada servicing the Toronto area.
In this role you must be able to provide customer satisfaction by providing solutions in a timely and effective manner while continuing to strengthen the customer relationship and product feasibility. This may include new appearances, color adaptation, process issues, complaints, formulation improvements, and chemistry. The Technical Service Rep (Field) will work directly with Red Spot Customers, Chemist, Sales/Tech Service Reps, and in collaboration with other Red Spot departments in North America to meet their needs.
Essential Functions:
- Problem Solve Product/Customer Issues in the Field – assess the customer/product issue and usage of the material, process, through conducting an initial investigation. Record and report findings, with supporting data, to the appropriate people within Red Spot. Establish a corrective action plan and work through issue until resolved. Communicate with customers and appropriate Red Spot personnel of progress.
- Coordinate Communication – serve as a liaison to communicate technical information, inventories, issues, etc. to Research, Production, Sales, and Quality from the customer.
- Support with Customer Start-ups and Continual Improvement – establish and understand customer expectations. Prepare material according to Red Spot technical product data requirements. Spray samples off line to ensure processability and then trial within the customer’s process. Ensure successful application of product to customer specification for color, gloss, and film build. Provide training for customers or Red Spot employees when needed.
- Color Matching – aid in the matching of color per customer direction using visual and numerical qualifications that they have assigned.
- Reviews Work Instructions – associated wit the above-mentioned job title and regularly attends company-wide training on areas such as Corporate Ethics, Safety, Environmental, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
(Includes education, experience, and licenses/certifications required. This list may not be all inclusive.)
- GED or High School Diploma is required
- 4-year bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in technical area preferred
- 3+ years’ experience or any combination of equivalent education and experience in Paint Manufacturing, Technical Representative field.
- Sufficient understanding of coatings to problem solve paint or processing issues to begin working at customer facilities.
- Ability to work with multiple Red Spot departments.
- Ability to successfully pass Ishihara Test for Color Deficiency.
- Ability to travel, to customer sites and to facilities within the organization.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently and/or bilingual.

- Excellent computer and data entry skills – MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of relating to individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent paint processing and shading knowledge.

- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to be flexible and meet/if needed after normal working hours or on weekends.
- Ability to maintain accurate, detailed files and records, and comply with appropriate record keeping requirements.
- Ability to financially manage projects, material, equipment and ensure maximum value is achieved.
- Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks, in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, make decisions, resolve issues, and meet critical time deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of company formulations, raw materials, vendors, confidential projects, etc. As well as all company information and matters.
- Shows initiative and drive.
- Ability to interpret and adhere to all company policies, including Quality/EHS procedures and policies, and all applicable government regulations.
- Knowledge of customer base, production lines, process, etc.
