Job Summary:

Provides inspection and preventive maintenance of sophisticated electronic medical and dental systems located in Health Services Division facilities.

Job Duties:

Inspects all new biomedical equipment prior to being placed in service to ensure program, regulatory, safety, and code requirements are met; and equipment performs to manufacturer's specifications.  Evaluates all new equipment for inclusion in a comprehensive preventive maintenance program using risk based  criteria.  Provides skilled technical services to maintain, repair and calibrate an extensive variety of medical and dental equipment either directly or through coordination of vendor service contracts.  Utilizes equipment which ranges from basic diagnostic instruments to extremely complex systems containing multiple sub systems and components that are fully integrated and networked from proper operation.  Works with complex systems such as physiological monitoring systems, vital signs telemetry, radiographic/fluoroscopic x-ray systems, digital diagnostic equipment used in Teleradiology and Telemedicine operations.  Works closely with IT staff for planning and support of networked patient care systems to ensure maximum availability for clinical staff.  Develops and maintains current library of equipment vendor service information, laws, codes, standards and regulations pertinent to biomedical equipment maintenance.  Utilizes hospital biomedical equipment management software to comply with hospital and regulatory requirements.  When requested to will participate in 24/7 rotating callback duty at one week periods.  Assures life support medical equipment is in optimal working condition 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibility is required.

Qualifications:

BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  May include two years or more of undergraduate college course work.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

An additional one year of experience in a related field is required.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.  Prefer CPR certification.

 

BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school in biomedical engineering technology; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  May include two years or more of undergraduate college course work.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

An additional four (4) years experience in a related field is required.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS   

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT   

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
