The employee will be responsible for managing and leading the AD department and all analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC-MS, IC, LC-MS/MS, and RapidFire MS. A successful employee will be a strong communicator, effective problem solver, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment characteristic of a start-up. The candidate will be capable of working collaboratively with the R&D teams to ensure the AD capacities meet the needs of the scientific departments by setting and effectively communicating realistic timelines. As the AD department provides support to all R&D teams, a strong operational background and vision is critical for this position.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with senior management and leadership teams to develop a strategic vision for Antheia's AD capabilities and workflow.
- Hire and ensure training of key staff to support both the operational and R&D sides of AD.
- Interface with directors and research staff in other departments to identify new analytical method development needs and prioritize resources based on corporate and department goals.
- Advocate for the individual members of the AD team, ensuring they achieve their own personal development goals.
- Establish workflows and timelines for phase-appropriate analytical method development and provide ongoing technical support and leadership.
- Work with the R&D teams to ensure methods are fit-for-purpose and continue to monitor performance and data quality with real samples.
- Develop a strong operational core to meet the needs of all R&D departments and organize and coordinate efforts to ensure streamlined use of analytical instrumentation and personnel.
- Work with data science department to develop and improve request systems for analytical samples and ensure robust and streamlined integration of data into data management systems and visualization tools.
- Seek and qualify new technologies and techniques that will further advance/enable project goals, including identification of contract research labs.
- Develop clear SOPs that can be used internally and shared with partners to support tech transfer activities.
- Partner with QC to identify opportunities for improving existing test methods, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and are optimized for efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
- Support the transfer of analytical methods from Analytical Development to QC, including review of transfer protocols and troubleshooting to ensure smooth adoption and compliance.
- Collaborate with the QC team on method refinement, qualification, and lifecycle management to ensure methods are robust, reproducible, and aligned with ICH Q2(R2)/Q14 requirements.
- Responsible for purchasing and maintenance of all analytical equipment.

Qualifications/Experience:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or equivalent discipline. 10+ years of experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of analytical equipment and methods, especially mass spectrometry (including high resolution MS) for small molecules.
- Experience with HTP sample preparation, including using automation.
- Experience with additional analytical methods such as ion chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, Karl Fischer analysis is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams.
- (Bonus Experience) Understanding and/or familiar with of ICH Q2(R2) and ICH Q14 for analytical procedure development and validation of analytical procedures.
- (Bonus Experience) Understanding and/or familiar with of ICH Q6A/Q6B for specifications for biotechnological products and acceptance criteria for small molecules.
- Strong background in operations and organizing analytical services in support of R&D teams.
Additional Information:
Full-time base salary range of $190,000 – $220,000 plus an annual bonus potential and equity opportunities.
