A Spiritual Care Advisor manages and develops services to meet the spiritual needs of patients and their families, as well as, HBI/CHPC employees. Manages, assists, and evaluates spiritual care staff. Actively participates in and conducts worship, including various ceremonies/rituals, during visits to new patients and follow up visits, as requested. Works as part of an interdisciplinary team of care givers within HBI/CHPC network.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for a Spiritual Care Advisor:
Provides quality pastoral care/spiritual guidance upon request of patients/families in homes, palliative care units, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and homes caring for developmentally disabled individuals.
Supervises spiritual care staff through group supervision and field observation and evaluation; makes recommendations for changes in the plan of care, when needed.
Assists Managers and Directors in the evaluation of spiritual care counselor's performance in accordance with established policy.
Maintains current knowledge and understanding of State and Federal regulations and accreditation standards affecting the provision of Hospice services.
Maintain current clinical skill set by carrying an active patient caseload.
Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team and acts as an expert consultant for spiritual aspects of coping with illness.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary groups to arrange and successfully implement patient driven plans of care.
Effectively and accurately document ongoing patient information within provided electronic medical record, according to organizational and professional standards-and maintains their security.
Maintains appropriate boundaries with patients/families and staff members and shows the ability to differentiate between religious tradition and a person's spiritual life.
Adheres to requirements of both HPCB and Hospice Buffalo policies and procedures that are both patient focused (clinical) and organizational focused (administrative). Adheres to HIPAA regulations and policies. Maintains the security of the patient electronic/written records.
Conducts memorial services and staff education, as needed.
Establish Hospice Buffalo spiritual care best practices within the organization.
Build relationships with other spiritual care providers within the Erie County community.
Share Hospice Buffalo spiritual care best practices within the national Hospice community.
Qualifications for a Spiritual Care Advisor:
Education/Certification
Master of Divinity, Pastoral Studies, Religion, Theology or comparable field
Successful completion of one unit of clinical pastoral education (CPE) or equivalent is required. Completion of multiple units preferred.
Current Driver's license, free of serious violations, and vehicle required.
Experience:
At least two (2) years of spiritual care experience working with terminally ill patients.
At least two (2) years of spiritual leadership experience including staff supervision.
Working knowledge of spiritual dimension of human nature, ways of spiritual guidance, forms of meditation, journaling, and a deep understanding of value being a non-judgmental, listening presence.
