This position is for the 2025-2026 school year.
NOTICE OF POSSIBLE WAIVER: To expedite the hiring for this position, the hiring supervisor may apply for a waiver to prevent disruption of necessary instructional or support services.
Mt. Washington Elementary is seeking a dedicated and caring Preschool Instructional Assistant to support the academic, social, and emotional development of our youngest learners. The Preschool IA will work closely with the classroom teacher to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities include:

Assisting the teacher with daily classroom instruction and activities.

Working with small groups or individual students to reinforce skills and support learning.

Supervising students in the classroom, during transitions, and at designated times such as lunch, recess, or rest periods.

Supporting students with self-help skills, including toileting, dressing, and feeding, as needed.

Helping prepare instructional materials and classroom resources.

Encouraging positive behavior and modeling respectful interactions.

Communicating effectively with the teacher, staff, and families to support student success.
This position is for 6.5 hours per day and 146 days per year
(122 student instructional days, 4 paid holidays and and 20 extended days)
Contracted days will be adjusted depending upon start date.

- Must have 48 semester hours, an Associates Degree or have a high school diploma or equivalent and have passed the paraeducator exam and provide a copy to HR upon recommendation to hire.
New employees to the district may bring in up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience. (NOTE: It will be the responsibility of the applicant hired to submit the BCPS verification of experience form to their prior employer to complete and return to HR.)
