The County of San Diego has current openings for Fleet Parts Specialist.


 Interviews will take place the week of November 3rd 2025, and JOB OFFERs will be made the week of November 10th 2025.


FUTURE SALARY INCREASES

June 2026 – 4.30% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.30% Market Adjustment) 

June 2027 – 4.20% increase to base pay (2.90% Across-the- Board + 1.30% Market Adjustment) 


The Department of General Services (DGS) is responsible for overall management of all County vehicles, including acquisition, electrification, disposal, inventory, regulatory compliance, maintenance and fueling.


The Fleet Services Division owns and operates one of the largest government vehicle fleets in the State of California consisting of over 4,500 vehicles and equipment. Fleet Services consists of Acquisitions, Maintenance, and Contracts & Compliance. There are seven maintenance locations, six mobile maintenance units, 29 fuel sites and 91 contracts in place for parts, service, and repairs. 


Fleet Parts Specialists research, order, receive, issue, inventory and deliver materials, supplies, and equipment used to maintain the county fleet and its support operations. Incumbents are responsible for storeroom operations involving fleet automotive, truck, construction, industrial parts and supplies availability and research methods. Incumbents are also involved in duties that are more complex such as performing automated and manual inventory control and record keeping practices and methods.

HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES


The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below:  
 

  • Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process begin in November 2025. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. 
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Three (3) years of automotive storekeeping/warehousing experience consisting of researching, ordering, receiving, storing and issuing a wide variety of automotive, truck, construction, and industrial parts, supplies and equipment.

CERTIFICATIONS


A valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this class. Positions in this class series require the possession of a valid Certified Forklift Operator's License within thirty (30) days after appointment.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions may be subject to exposure to exhaust fumes, traffic, noise, and dust; exposure to computer screens.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT


As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
