Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly analytical and self-directed Tax Analyst to join our Tax Department The ideal candidate will manage the fixed assets for tax books, work with the team on the compliance of federal, state, and local income tax filings, and support various tax and accounting related activities. This role is pivotal in maintaining the accuracy of our financial and tax reporting and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fixed Asset Tax Management
- Manage and maintain fixed asset data in the JDE fixed Asset System; independently analyze and make necessary adjustments to ensure accurate tax basis for asset cost and depreciation in compliance with applicable fed and state laws.
- Perform detailed reconciliations between book and tax asset reports, identifying and resolving discrepancies independently.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the fixed asset accounting team to reconcile and interpret book vs. tax differences, ensuring alignment of reporting schedules.
- Research and interpret federal and state tax laws as they relate to fixed asset classifications, depreciation methods, and tax treatment; summarize findings and propose changes or adjustments.
- Design and generate custom reports and data extractions from JDE and Excel for use in tax compliance, forecasts, financial reporting, and audit support.
- Develop and implement a standardized monthly review process for fixed asset tax data; lead training sessions to educate team members on procedures, system usage, tax treatment considerations, and process controls.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in preparing for and responding to audits and tax authority inquiry on fixed assets.
- Tax projects
- Preparing complex tax-related reports and schedules for internal leadership and external stakeholders; analyze and interpret data to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws and accounting standards.
- Coordinate and compile documentation for federal, state and local tax audits, as well as financial statement audits; serve as a contact person for providing technical explanations and supporting positions taken on returns for fixed assets and other assigned tax areas.
- Research and interpret federal, state, and local tax regulations on various tax matters, including writing up technical memos that supports the company’s tax position.
- Evaluate tax reporting systems and recommend or implement process changes to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Accounting and Tax Operations
- Review complex state income and franchise tax returns prepared by external providers; verify accuracy by analyzing supporting schedules and applying multi-jurisdictional tax laws.
- Prepare federal, state and local tax forms to ensure compliance with current regulations and consistency with internal reporting standards.
- Draft correspondences and responses to inquiries from government tax authorities; provide written explanations of tax positions and negotiate resolutions where necessary.
- Prepare and process quarterly tax payments for the corporation and inpat employees.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of income tax general ledger accounts, identifying and investigating discrepancies, and preparing adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Manage the internal tax process to ensure returns, payments, and notices are filed timely and accurately.
Qualifications
- CPA license, or progress towards certification, or Master’s Degree in Taxation
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in tax or accounting in a corporate or public accounting environment.
- Demonstrated experience in exercising discretion and independent judgment in the application of tax law and accounting policies.
Technical & Soft Skills
- Advanced Excel (XLOOKUPs, SUMIFS, Pivot Tables); experience with JDE preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to operate independently under minimal supervision and make decisions impacting financial reporting and compliance.

The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is between $70,000 and $90,000 per year.
