About the Department
Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park is looking for a dynamic student intern with a passion for local history, museums and public service. This unique position combines hands-on museum exhibition and collection work with visitor services. The intern will work directly with the Archivist on museum projects, including inventory of the Permanent and/or Teaching Collection. Additionally, the intern will contribute to park events and guest services as needed. The intern will gain experience in artifact handling, museum preservation, cataloging and exhibit maintenance. This position requires someone personable, collaborative and a well-organized individual who’s accountable, enthusiastic about local history, enjoys public engagement and is comfortable working in outdoor environments!

Position Duties
• Assist with an inventory and storage upgrade for the Archive and historic buildings
• Properly care for museum objects and archival materials using accepted professional museum standards (training provided)
• Assist with the digital cataloging service Past Perfect (cataloging, inventory, accessions, condition reports, etc.)
• Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of exhibits
• Provide a variety of administrative and specialized support to archives
• Assist in the preparation of emails, reports, newsletters and data entry
• Provide front-line customer service
• Support special events setup/cleanup and front-line customer service
Minimum Qualifications
• Interest in local and state history
• Demonstrate attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently or with a team
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Good eye/hand coordination
• Knowledgeable of modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and scanners
• Ability to climb stairs, traverse uneven ground and occasionally climb a ladder
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach for extended periods, withstand exposure to the outdoors, and lift up to 50 lbs
Other Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an accredited academic course/program or technical/trade school.
Special Conditions
• Required to attend mandatory meeting/training sessions; must provide own transportation
• Must meet state of California tuberculosis test requirements
• Must have valid California State Driver’s License
