The City of Wylie is seeking a Maintenance Technician for our Fleet Services division. The selected applicant under general supervision, will perform light mechanical repairs and welding on city vehicles and equipment.
SUPERVISION
Supervision is provided by the Fleet Maintenance Coordinator.
Position Duties
- Performs light duty repairs on City vehicles and equipment including small engines.
- Performs common electrical repairs.
- Performs light assembly and light bulb replacement.
- Performs removal and replacement of engine belts.
- Performs removal and replacement of alternator and starter assembly (automotive class only).
- Performs removal and replacement of batteries.
- Assists Fleet Maintenance Coordinator with repairs to City vehicles and equipment such as motors, transmissions, and rear axle overhauling.
- Maintains a clear driving record.
- Operates a large variety of City vehicles and equipment.
- Crawls under and/or climbs on vehicles for inspections.
- Lifts, pulls, and/or pushes up to 100 pounds of parts inventory.
- Sits, stands, stoops, twists and/or walks for extended periods of time during vehicle inspections.
- Works both indoors and outdoors, including during adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold and heat.
- Uses appropriate safety precautions in performance of job duties.
- Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
- Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire. Ability to obtain Class “A” CDL within one year of employment with no restrictions except “A”. Must have two years of verifiable technician experience required in another fleet or retail automotive environment. Knowledge of primary welding skills in automotive or construction field preferred. Some experience with data entry and computerized fleet management software preferred. Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.

Very high: Exerting over 100 lbs. occasionally, 50-100 lbs. frequently, or 20-50 lbs. constantly.
