The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Fund Accountant. Reporting to the Senior Director of Fund Accounting, the Fund Accountant is responsible for the financial management and compliance of donor- restricted gifts and endowed funds. 

Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

 

Restricted and Endowment Fund Accounting: Maintain ledgers for endowment and donor restricted funds. Process and record endowment investment activity, market value changes, and pooling. Calculate and post endowment spending distributions in accordance with UPMIFA and institutional policies. Prepare periodic and annual donor reports in collaboration with Advancement/Development to include central leadership and UT Investment Office. Assist with the creation and Maintenace of gift and endowment funds. 

 

Compliance and Audit: Maintain knowledge of relevant accounting standards, Uniform Guidance, and donor requirements. Ensure documentation and records are retained in accordance with institutional and donor retention policies. Prepare schedules and provide documentation for external audits and donor site visits. Recommend and implement internal controls and process improvements to safeguard restricted and endowed funds. Monitor and reconcile restricted gift accounts to ensure funds are used in accordance with donor intent on the as need basis. 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience 

The candidate who fills the Fund Accountant position is required to have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field 
  • 1-2+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably with restricted funds and endowments 
  • Knowledge of GAAP, Uniform Guidance and endowment accounting principles 
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills 
  • Proficiency with financial/accounting software and Microsoft Excel 

 

Preferred Education and Experience 

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have: 

  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit financial management  
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud or similar enterprise systems
