$26.59 to $29.25 hourly.  Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.  Central Area.  Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Performs highly skilled crafts and trades work in the maintenance and complex repair of heavy diesel and/or gasoline vehicles and equipment. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:  Eight (8) years of experience in heavy equipment mechanics, including three (3) years of diesel engine mechanics OR Two (2) years of experience with Brevard County as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic II OR Four (4) years of experience with Brevard County as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic I.  Successful completion of course work in heavy equipment mechanics or closely related field at a post-secondary school may be substituted on a year for year basis for a maximum of one year (1,080 class hours [1 school year] = 1 year of experience; 120 class hours = 1 month of experience).  Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.  SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must possess or obtain, prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License and maintain said license during the term of employment.  Must possess the following ASE certifications: A7 or T7 – Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning T2 - Diesel Engines T4 - Brakes PLUS three (3) additional medium/heavy equipment ASE certifications.  In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
