About the Role
St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne is seeking enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapists to join our casual pool, providing flexible support across weekdays and weekends.
This role is ideal for clinicians seeking:

Classifications for this position will range from VF6-VF9 ($45.67 per hour - $52.49 per hour) plus a casual loading of 25%).

Position Description
This Grade 2 role provides an Occupational therapy service to the Acute, SubAcute (inc Palliative Care) and Home Rehab Inpatient Units across St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. This role is also supported by a Grade 3 Stream Leader, other Grade 2 staff members & Grade 1 rotational staff members
POSITION PURPOSE
This role works closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide a quality allied health service to inpatients admitted under the acute/ subacute units of SVHM. Accountable to the Manager, Occupational therapy department, and relevant Grade 3 Senior Clinician Occupational Therapist, the Grade 2 Occupational Therapist is responsible for contributing to the development, implementation and delivery of a high quality occupational therapy service to inpatients within the multidisciplinary team at SVHM. It is an expectation that there is a demonstration of evidence based practice in the assessment and implementation of Occupational therapy with this patient demographic.
POSITION DUTIES
Provide optimal Occupational Therapy clinical management to all patients through the continuum
of care by assessment, treatment, re-evaluation, documentation, team liaison and effective
discharge planning
Ongoing demonstration & evaluation of EBP in the delivery of Occupational therapy to the acute
units and acute inpatients of SVHM.
Contribute to the planning and development of activities and services of the Occupational Therapy
Service as appropriate
Actively participate in the departmental clinical supervision program
Actively participate in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the Occupational Therapy service
Participation in the Clinical education program within the Occupational therapy department
Participate in quality improvement activities in liaision with senior staff & manager in accordance
with the department’s Quality Plan and Continuous Imporvement framework.
Development, implementation and promotion of new initiatives regarding Occupational Therapy
service provision that are appropriate and reflective of specialty areas and clientele
Ensure effective management of Occupational Therapy aids and equipment to maximise patient
independence and safety
INCUMBENT OBLIGATIONS
Perform duties of the position to best of their ability and to a standard acceptable to SVHM
Comply with all SVHM policies, procedures, by laws and directions

maintaining the confidentiality of that information once accessed
Participate in the annual SVHM performance review process

Comply with applicable Enterprise Bargaining Agreement provisions
Display a willingness to develop self and seek to improve performance
Attend clinical orientation upon commencement
Maintain clinical registration and any required indemnity cover
Always work within approved scope of practice under supervision by more senior clinical staff as
appropriate.
Take personal responsibility for the quality and safety of work undertaken
Take all necessary care and precautions when undertaking clinical procedures
Complete annual clinical competencies
Maintain skills and knowledge necessary to safely and skillfully undertake clinical work
Consult with peers and other experts and refer to other healthcare workers when appropriate and in a timely manner
Collaborate and clearly communicate with patients/clients and the healthcare team
Participate in clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement activities as part of day-to-day work
Ensure consumers receive information in an appropriate and accessible format
Actively support consumers to make informed decisions about their treatment and ongoing care
Ensure consumers are aware of their rights responsibilities and how to provide feedback
Protect the health and safety of self and others, complying with all health and safety related
policies, procedures and directions
Complete required Fire and Emergency Training annually
Complete required Workplace Culture and Equity Training annually
Attend general hospital orientation within 3 months of commencement
As required, comply with fit-testing and PPE requirements
Participate in reporting and analysis of safety and quality data including risks or hazards,
Report any hazards, near misses and incidents (regardless of whether an injury occurred or not)
into Riskman
Identify and report any variance to expected standard and minimising the risk of adverse outcome
SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
AHPRA Occupational therapy Registration (and Eligibility for membership to Australian Occupational therapy Association)
Current Victorian motor vehicle license
Satisfactory National Police check
OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience working in the acute and subacute health care settings
A keen interest & working knowledge of occupational therapy intervention to patients in the
acute, aged care and rehabilitation settings.
Highly competent in a variety of standardised occupational therapy assessment & treatment modalities
Demonstration of the ability to work autonomously and flexibly.
Experience in a wide range of medical conditions
Demonstration & knowledge of evidence based practice
Ability to work autonomously & demonstration of positive team work principles
Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Superior written and verbal communication skills & effective clinical hand over processes
Knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement
OTHER NON ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Relevant postgraduate courses in areas in relation to Occupational Therapy or Health Services Management.
Knowledge in the area of health care provision in a correctional health care setting would be advantageous but is not essential
