About the Role:
The Organic Assistant Grower is responsible for ensuring Freeman Herbs has healthy and pest free crops. The Organic Assistant Grower will maintain a low pest count and work on future methods of control. The Organic Assistant Grower will collaborate with the growers for optimizing our climate conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with Organic grow team to develop and maintain overall plan for Organic integrated pest management.
- Maintain and follow through weekly and daily bio plans to completion
- Maintain bio health from receiving to placement, including temperature and humidity in storage
- Maintain inventory of spray room, ensuring all products are satisfactory.
- Maintain environmental controls for all organic crops
- Work with IPM Scout to scout all areas required and track results and findings into computer programs, and use this information to place bios accordingly
- Work with Organic Head Grower to develop a plan for incoming organic plants to the greenhouse
- Work with Organic Head Grower to develop plan for controlling pests coming in the greenhouse
- Remain knowledgeable on all pesticide information, including which products to use in each situation, with guidance from the Organic Head Grower
- Complete all pesticides paper work for organic team, including safety, audit and tracking information.
- Run all orders through the Head Organic Grower for approval
- Attend and participate in grower’s meetings, welcoming feedback and identifying process improvements
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
What We’re Looking For
Experience and Requirements:
• Diploma and/or degree in horticulture/agriculture
• Minimum of 3 years of greenhouse or agricultural experience
• Strong understanding of pest management and pesticide use
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel)
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Familiarity with health and safety practices in a greenhouse setting
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors
• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
• Adaptability to changing tasks, weather conditions, and seasonal workloads
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new techniques and procedures
• Willingness to work extra hours during peak seasons and including possible Saturdays
