Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze embedded firmware and hardware in transmission control modules (TCMs) to understand control strategies, solenoid commands, and diagnostic routines, always in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Perform hardware-level analysis of control module circuit boards, microcontrollers, and memory devices to support product development and testing.
- Extract and analyze firmware and binary code using industry-standard tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, and Hex-Rays, ensuring all activities are conducted within legal and ethical boundaries.
- Develop and modify low-level code in C, C++, and Assembly for microcontrollers used in transmission systems, focusing on compatibility and performance.
- Create and maintain memory maps, bootloaders, and calibration data for TCMs to support remanufacturing and testing processes.
- Collaborate with ETE Reman engineers to facilitate the integration of mechanical and electronic systems.
- Identify and resolve software-related issues affecting transmission performance or compatibility, while adhering to all relevant intellectual property and legal considerations.
- Document technical processes and provide detailed reports for internal use.
- Interface with diagnostic tools and protocols (CAN, OBD-II, UDS) to support testing, validation, and data logging.
- Support the development of custom firmware for remanufactured units to meet updated standards or customer requirements, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and OEM guidelines.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in embedded systems analysis, firmware development, or related fields.
- Proficient with tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Hex-Rays, and logic analyzers.
- Strong understanding of automative protocol standards (CAN, LIN, UDS, FlexRay).
- Ability to interpret microcontroller datasheets and hardware schematics.
The Automotive Embedded Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the development and testing of automotive electronic hardware and software at ETE Reman. This position focuses on analyzing and understanding the functionality of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) transmission control modules (TCMs) to inform the creation of robust testing and validation processes. The engineer will work closely with both engineering and production teams to ensure high-quality standards and product reliability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in automotive or powertrain control systems, with emphasis on transmission technologies.
- Experience with Transmission Control Modules (TCMs) from OEMs such as GM, Ford, Chrysler, ZF, Bosch, and Aisin.
- Familiarity with OEM TCM architectures and automotive diagnostics/calibration tools (e.g., WinOLS, PCM Hammer).
- Knowledge of secure firmware practices and industry standards.
- Understanding of hydraulic and electro-hydraulic systems used in modern transmissions.
