Fuels Analyst
Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide support and assist in handling activities within the Fuels and Co-Owner functions. These responsibilities require a level of leadership and organizational skills coupled with clear communication to meet the evolving needs within Generation. This role is responsible for effectively communicating with both Plant personnel and Co-Owners on day-to-day inventory and contract management of fuel, railcars and other stockpiles across Georgia Power’s coal fleet. Will be responsible for organizing and leading the Fuel Committee meetings across Georgia. Will provide support across the Georgia plants from an analyst perspective to monitor burn, answer questions related to Fuel Accounting and participate in data collection/reporting.

- Travel for this Fuels Analyst position is required. (10-20%).
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively across organizations required.
- Strong experience in Excel is highly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of fuels operations, contracts and railroad operation preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of power generation or similar industrial experience is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to manage information, including interfacing with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies is desirable.
Fuels Responsibilities
- Provide regulatory support which includes coordination of addressing fuel questions from Georgia Public Service Commission, GPC Financial Planning, GPC Fuel Accounting, Consolidated Fuel Accounting, etc.
- Support GPC Plants on any fuel related issues.
- Monitor plant daily burns and general unit information.
- Perform or audit quarterly coal and limestone aerial surveys.
- Review plant inventories and inventory projections.
- Lead Analyst for Scherer (and Wansley as needed) BTU inventory accountings, including PO “carve-outs,” and carryover ton allocations with varying transportation railroads.
- Engage in fuel purchases, sales, buy-outs, etc.
- Understand plant and contract coal specifications while monitor receipts for meeting those specs.
- Participate in resolving fuel related issues for plants, accounting, environmental, regulatory, etc.
- Participate in data collection and fuel reporting (i.e., weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, etc.).
- Maintain the GPC file room (contracts, correspondence, notes, etc.).
- Complete purchase and change order activities (ownership percentages of PO’s).
- Oversee Scherer inventory tracking and reporting including commitments, communication, and function as liaison between co-owners and SCS Fuel Services staff.
- Support activities related to short and long-term purchases of coal for GPC plants, as needed.
- Support all co-owner meetings including resource scheduling, documentation, and communication.
- Support all efforts to fulfill requests and provide data/analysis for Regulatory filings.
- Engage in transportation decisions for coal and limestone.
- Support the administration of railcars and assist with straggler car identification and resolution.
- Participate in regulatory, environmental and inventory strategy planning.
- Prepare miscellaneous presentations and provide support for internal/external requests.
- Provide support/input on all aspects of GPC's inventory management issues including determining inventory targets, allocation of coal to existing plants to optimize opportunities, etc.
- Provide support on a variety of special projects which are numerous and quite common with the GPC Fuel Program - i.e., coal blending, fuel transloading, special presentations, environmental evaluations, special billing issues, limestone issues, co-owner processes, etc.
- Ensure fuel compliance
Co-Owner Responsibilities
- Assist with coordinating leadership for Scherer Managing Board and Operating Committee, the Wansley 1 & 2 Operating Committee and the Wansley CC Operating Committee
- Organize and coordinate the quarterly and annual meetings.
- Insure proper documentation of minutes and budget transmittals.
- Organize and distribute monthly reports from construction to Co-owner stakeholders.
- Follow-up on all action items to insure timely completion.
- Proactive engagement to Co-Owner participation.
