Civil Service Qualifications:
Must currently hold the title of Transportation Director II or be reachable from the Civil Service Transportation Director II list of eligibles, or Either: (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, plus three (3) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent paid experience in student transportation in one or more of the following areas: planning, budgeting, routing, scheduling, arranging contracted services for student transportation, office management (including responsibilities for personnel and payroll operations), one (1) year of which shall have included supervision; OR, (B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus seven (7) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent paid experience as described above in (A), one (1) year of which shall have included supervision.
Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid New York State Class *5* Operator’s license at the time of appointment.
Duties:
This is an administrative position involving direction, planning, budgeting, and supervision of pupil transportation services for eligible students residing within the district. Transportation Director directs the operations of routing, scheduling, and busing, directing the bus maintenance and inspection program for district-owned fleet. This position also oversees the bus operator driver safety training program and the maintenance records necessary for obtaining State Aid. Supervision of staff including operations and maintenance staff is required. Additional duties may include developing and implementing a transportation budget, directing and assisting with transportation routes including field trips, extra-curricular activities and summer programs, overseeing daily record maintenance, and transportation payroll/personnel functions as needed. Completes other related work as required.
