We are seeking an experienced and motivated Production Geologist to join the US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management (ORCM) – Texas Midland Basin Business Unit based in Midland, TX. The Production Geologist will play a critical role in well planning, permitting, drilling support, reservoir development, and post-drill optimization. This role collaborates closely with drilling, regulatory, completions, and subsurface teams to ensure safe, efficient, and value-driven development.
Responsibilities:- Develops GeoProgs with target interval justification and pay selection.
- Conducts mineralogy analysis (Quartz, TOC, clay typing).
- Maps surface-to-target trajectories and shallow hazards.
- Assesses SNDR/GYBG flow depth, charge, and Clearfork water sensitivity alerts.
- Collaborates with SSC, Drilling, Land, and Regulatory to ensure trajectory feasibility and permitting compliance.
- Applies facies analysis and RMD for target and window selection.
- Provides geosteering support and real-time drilling input.
- Supports DSU design with geologic inputs on bench targeting, landing strategy, and stacking.
- Evaluates intra-unit structure, reservoir variability, and parent/child depletion risks.
- Identifies suitable SWD zones with containment integrity.
- Prepares W-14 support documents (logs, maps, fault analysis).
- Coordinates permitting efforts with Water Strategy and Regulatory teams.
- Provides structural interpretation and geosteering guidance during drilling.
- Flags geologic deviations and recommends real-time adjustments.
- Integrates MWD/LWD data for trajectory optimization.
- Conducts lookbacks to improve planning and targeting.
- Evaluates wellbore placement accuracy.
- Supports recompletion planning and production enhancements.
- Identifies faulting or mechanical risks impacting completions.
- Collaborates on alternative completion technique evaluation.
- Participates in technical reviews for trades and OBO assessments.
- Prepares geologic summaries for business development.
- Partners with SSC and petrophysics to de-risk undeveloped inventory
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or related field preferred.
- Several years of experience in production geology, preferably within US onshore unconventional reservoirs.
- Strong background in geosteering, well planning, and trajectory design.
- Proficiency with geological and geophysical software tools.
- Knowledge of regulatory permitting and subsurface hazard analysis.
- Excellent collaboration skills with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Must be able to meet all conditional job offer requirements including background, drug test including hair follicle, MVR, agility and fit for duty.
