Virginia Union University (VUU) is a distinguished private institution founded in 1865 that proudly upholds a legacy of academic excellence and community engagement. The Dean of VU Technical College is responsible for advancing the mission of the College through innovative program development, strong industry partnerships, effective fiscal management, and a commitment to student success. This position serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College, reporting directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Dean will collaborate across the University and with external stakeholders to expand technical education pathways, strengthen workforce readiness initiatives, and align programs with industry needs. The role requires a forward-thinking leader who embraces innovation, equity, and excellence in technical education.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure academic quality and accreditation compliance across technical and workforce programs.
  • Lead curriculum development that aligns with industry standards, workforce trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Foster innovation in teaching, learning, and credentialing, including certifications, diplomas, and degree pathways.
  • Manage fiscal resources, including budget planning, grants, and external funding opportunities.
  • Oversee facilities, equipment, and technology to ensure safe and effective learning environments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, industry leaders, government agencies, and community organizations.
  • Expand internship, apprenticeship, and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Serve as a representative of the College at community, state, and national events.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and accountability.


Education

  • Doctorate preferred; Master’s degree in a relevant field required (e.g., Technical Education, Workforce Development, Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline).
  • At least 7–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education, workforce development, or technical training.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
