Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the investment strategy to support enterprise financial strength, growth, and risk objectives.
- Provide forward-looking recommendations through participation on key committees, including:
- P&C Committee (property & casualty performance alignment)
- Economic Summit (enterprise economic outlook)
- Pension/401(k) Committee (retirement asset oversight)
- Investment Committee (executive and Board-level financial guidance)
Portfolio & Risk Management
- Oversee ~$5 billion across fixed income, equities, alternatives, and private placements.
- Monitor assigned credits and sectors, including municipals, mortgage loans, and watch list assets, ensuring proactive risk management.
- Provide oversight of mortgage loan portfolio, including origination standards, servicing performance, and credit risk.
- Recommend and implement asset allocation strategies that balance yield, liquidity, surplus stability, and long-term growth.
- Collaborate with Internal Audit to evaluate and refine the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) strategy, ensuring investment risks are identified, measured, and mitigated.
Governance & Reporting
- Deliver clear and timely reporting on performance, risks, and market outlook to executive leadership and the Board.
- Ensure compliance with investment policies, state regulations, and rating agency expectations (e.g., AM Best BCAR).
- Maintain transparency and accountability across investment decisions, policies, and internal controls.
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 4 investment professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Define clear performance goals and ensure strong succession planning for critical roles.
- Drive collaboration across Finance, Actuarial, Risk, and Operations to strengthen enterprise-wide alignment.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
- Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
Certifications
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is highly desirable.
- Other relevant certifications: CPA, CFP, or PMP depending on the scope.
Experience Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive experience in investment management, asset allocation, or financial strategy.
- Prior leadership roles in pension funds, endowments, or institutional investment settings.
- Experience in public sector or nonprofit investment management is a plus.
