Keep the City moving and organized! The City of Modesto is looking for a Senior Storeskeeper to take charge of storekeeping operations, guide staff, and keep warehouse functions running smoothly. Bring your four years of storekeeping or warehouse experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid California driver’s license to step into this leadership role and make an impact!

The Senior Storeskeeper is responsible to organize, assign, and review the work of assigned personnel engaged in storekeeping activities; to perform duties requiring specialized knowledge; and to provide administrative support to the assigned supervisor.

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of storekeeping functions.
Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications.
Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
Coordinate and participate in the daily operation of the central warehouse; receive, unpack, count, and inspect materials to ensure accurate quality and quantity.
Purchase and order varied supplies, materials, and equipment as needed; prepare purchase orders as necessary; follow up on material not received in agreed amount of time.
Contact vendors and secure price quotations and determine availability of materials and goods; place orders.
Check shipping invoices against purchase orders for discrepancies in terms of order.
Compile records of supply transactions; prepare month end reports.
Maintain adequate stock levels and records on all materials; participate in scheduled inventories.
Ensure the proper maintenance and security of central stores and surplus storage buildings and grounds.
Contact departments concerning material received for them; see that materials are picked up and proper paperwork in completed.
Operate equipment, including a forklift and office machines, as necessary.
Perform the most difficult storekeeping work.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of technical and functional supervision and training.
Storekeeping methods and procedures including inventory control.
Basic principles and practices of purchasing.
Warehouse procedures.
Types of supplies, materials, and equipment commonly used in a City.
Basic mathematical principles.
Forklift operation.
Techniques of writing purchasing specifications.
Stores procurement procedures.
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
Safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments.
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Ability to:
Provide technical and functional supervision over assigned staff; effectively train staff.
Interpret work orders and explain jobs to other employees.
Select and recommend the purchase of routinely used materials and supplies; evaluate needs and estimate future supply requirements for parts and other inventory items.
Understand and apply federal, state, and local and municipal purchasing laws and procedures.
Estimate future supply needs and assure adequate stock levels.
Obtain the right materials and services for a fair and reasonable price.
Prepare purchasing specifications; interview and correspond with vendors regarding their products.
Maintain accurate records.
Perform arithmetic calculations accurately and rapidly.
Operate a forklift and drive a small truck.
Adapt to changing safety requirements.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of responsible experience equivalent to a Storeskeeper with the City of Modesto.
Training:
High School diploma or GED equivalency.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
Other Qualifications
Mobility: frequent performance of heavy manual labor; frequent standing for long period of time; frequent bending, squatting and climbing. Lifting: frequent lifting up to 75 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds. Vision: constant use of overall vision. Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to hear in noisy conditions. Emotional/Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone. Environmental: frequent exposure to noise; frequent exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other environmental substances.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor environment on a year-round basis, subject to varying weather conditions, street or vehicle noise and a non-climate controlled warehouse environment. Work may require some exposure to loud equipment and machinery. Positions may require occasional overtime or weekend work and travel is rare.
