Reporting to the Director VP, Operations, and dyad partner to the Medical Chief of the Division of Pulmonology (if applicable). The Respiratory Therapy Manager is responsible for the administrative, operational, and financial aspects for the Respiratory division, including (all depts/areas that report to this position) across UC Health.   This includes oversight of budgets; contracts; personnel management; planning; facilities management; clinical performance improvement; patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily activity to assure appropriate cost-effective care delivery.  Develop and enforce department and hospital Policy and Procedure. Monitor and enforce utilization of infection control guidelines. Coordinates department activities to assure a unified approach to quality care delivery.  Provide on-call coverage for consultation. Member of several hospital committees.
  • Provides guidance, psychological support and clinical precepting and mentoring of staff.  Prepare and present appraisals of staff; initiate corrective action and assist in conflict resolution to maintain personal and professional growth of staff.  Participates in recruitment, hiring, payroll and benefit issues. Facilitate Core team meetings.
  • Develop Performance Improvement projects and collect and analyze data to validate effectiveness and appropriateness. (Projects include departmental programs, productivity, clinical practice, equipment, policy and procedure, infection control, multidisciplinary programs, clinical pathways, clinical practice standards, etc.)  Monitor compliance with JCAHO standards and educate staff regarding opportunities for improvement.  
     
  • Precepts and mentors new employees. Provide ongoing education and competency evaluation/review.  Educate and mentor students, both on site and at schools (Respiratory Care, paramedic, physician, nursing and other Allied Health). Act as a liaison for internal and external resources to assure a unified approach to patient care delivery.  Communicate information about profession to high school and allied health programs to increase awareness and support for future growth of the respiratory care field.
  • Demonstrates open, inclusive, respectful communication.  Participates in problem resolution.  Uses chain of command appropriately to exchange information and communication issues.  Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and others as need to provide the highest quality of care to patients and caregivers.
  • Aid in preparation for the budget and charging/billing for the system.  Evaluates supplies, capital equipment and assures proper inventory maintained.  Performs equipment repairs and ordering of rental equipment.  Conduct research on equipment, supplies and clinical care to assure excellence.  Assists in personnel scheduling to optimize staffing resources.  Develop productivity standards to appropriately allocate staff and effectively manage personnel budget.  Acts in absence of System Director.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum Required: Backelor's Degree 
  • Preferred: Master's Degree
  • Other: Graduate of approved program in AMA Approved Respiratory Therapy School. 
  • Current license to practice respiratory care issued by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board. 
  • Must possess the RRT credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care and BLS. 
  • Minimum Required: 3-5 Years equivalent experience.
