The Head Coach is responsible for the administration and organization of a successful athletic program that competes in the Centennial Conference at the NCAA Division III level.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Prepare, schedule and organize daily practice sessions, travel schedules, game preparation for competition, and off-season training; devise team rules and expectations
- Organize and administer the recruiting of prospective student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA, Centennial Conference, and Ursinus College policies and procedures;
- Hire, organize, direct, and mentor the coaching staff to carry out the goals and objectives of the program; support all athletes, coaches and staff on and off the field
- Provide general advising, mentoring and support to student-athletes and work to ensure their academic progress and ongoing eligibility, keeping the College’s mission and values in mind;
- Responsibly expend allocated budget to ensure that the budget balances each fiscal year and manage all aspects of fundraising, alumni relations and community outreach;
- Engage in regular consultation with athletic training personnel to implement appropriate risk management strategies and maximize the safety and overall wellness of student-athletes;
- Work collaboratively with the Compliance Officer in regards to adhering to all rules and regulations of the NCAA;
- Field a team that will be as competitive as possible within the guidelines set by the NCAA, CC and Ursinus College;
- Engage in ethical decision-making and outstanding sportsmanship; be mindful of representing Athletics in a professional/positive way
Execute all of these responsibilities as head coach in a manner that reflects an ongoing commitment to the excellence, integrity and success of the men’s lacrosse program, the Department of Athletics, and Ursinus College.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
- Knowledge of rules and techniques of the sport
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, delegation and planning ability
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III and Centennial Conference rules and regulations
- Experience with recruiting and fundraising
