JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.
JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
The Technical Writer I follows established procedures and formats and writes and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications. Writing content is concentrated on work methods and procedures, and the installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
Employee will be responsible for the following functions/duties:
- Researches and compiles technical data for use in routine documents or sections of those documents
- Obtains data and information from review of existing documentation, drawings, schematics, reports, published material, and consults with technical staff members
- Assists in general layout and manual organization.
- Prepares or contributes text, in clear and concise language, to be incorporated in technical publications, notes, manuals, and related technical information concerned with the installation, operation and maintenance of electrical, electronic, mechanical and other equipment
- Writes and edits project schedules, hardware/software reference guides, user's manuals, reports and other technical literature
- Observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail
- Studies blueprints, sketches, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure and production sequence and detail
- Reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance and service of equipment
- Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology; may assist in laying out material for publication
- Maintains records and files of work and revisions
- Contributes text for inclusion by other more senior Technical Publishers in highly specialized technical documents according to required specifications
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Associates degree or equivalent formal academic or vocational training in technical writing, technical journalism, technical communications, English or a related field and zero-three years of technical writing experience.
In addition, a Technical Writer I must possess the following qualifications:
- Must possess the ability and skill to write, edit, and prepare clear, concise, and acceptable scientific, technical, and management documentation for publication or production
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with technical professionals and managers
- Must be able to type, use a personal computer, and be familiar with full-featured word-processing applications, desktop publishing tools and drawing packages
- Must be able to work independently as well as contribute as part of a work group.
SALARY
The expected salary range for this position is $53,310.40 to $59,966.40 annually.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards. There is occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting and use of a computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while writing, reviewing, and editing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness. The incumbent must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.

Conversely, employees should not allow other JT4 employees or employees of another employer to use JT4 owned or assigned equipment without proof of training and approval of the shop manager.
