Description

NAYA Family Center is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Youth Parent Support Specialist to join our Youth & Education Services team. In this role, you will provide direct support to transition-age pregnant and parenting youth, helping them develop parenting skills and connect to housing, childcare, and health resources. You will advocate on behalf of families, facilitating communication between youth, landlords, and service providers to ensure housing and parenting success.

This position is primarily direct service (80%), with the remaining time dedicated to record-keeping and general administrative tasks. You will collaborate with NAYA staff, community partners, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support to young parents.

NAYA offers an exceptional benefits package, including free medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees (with affordable options for family members), a 401(k) retirement plan with a 6% match, paid vacation, and 16 paid holidays.

This is a full-time role with work hours of 9 am to 6 pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch. Some evening and weekend work may be required based on project needs. Once training and onboarding are complete, there may be flexibility to work from home 1-2 days a week with supervisor approval.

The pay rate for this position starts at $20 per hour.

Who You Are

  • Ideally, you have lived or professional experience working with diverse populations, particularly within Native American communities.
  • You have experience working with transition-age youth, particularly those who are pregnant or parenting.
  • You are passionate about empowering young parents and supporting their journey toward stability and self-sufficiency.
  • You are knowledgeable about local resources and services available to homeless youth and young parents.
  • You possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build trust and rapport with clients.
  • You are committed to providing culturally responsive services that honor Native American and Alaska Native traditions and values.
  • You are organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • You are adaptable, flexible, and able to manage changing priorities without compromising the quality of your work.
  • You demonstrate self-awareness, listening deeply, centering others, and taking accountability for your actions.
  • You are a collaborative team member, comfortable working across agencies and programs to deliver wraparound services.
  • You maintain thorough, timely, and accurate documentation in line with agency and funder requirements.
  • You are consistently punctual, reliable, and dependable in support of your team and clients.
  • You are proficient in computer skills, including web-based research, word processing, MS Excel, and email.
  • You possess a current Oregon or Washington driver’s license, and the ability to be insured under NAYA’s liability insurance policy (i.e. no more than one major driving violation in the last three years).

What You'll Do

  • Advocate on behalf of youth participants to achieve housing and parenting success.
  • Facilitate communication between youth, landlords, and other service providers and stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners, early childhood resources, landlords, and internal NAYA staff.
  • Provide access to tools and education that empower young parents to advocate for themselves and their children.
  • Connect young parents to academic and educational supports, resources, and programming.
  • Ensure youth participants have access to educational skills and life-skill development programming.
  • Refer participants to other NAYA programs and external programs that may benefit them or their children.
  • Develop and conduct parent/guardian skill-building workshops.
  • Perform formal assessments of family strengths to determine capacity to support the young person.
  • Coordinate and organize monthly workshops and weekly parenting groups utilizing a Positive Indian Parenting Curriculum.
  • Facilitate access to other parenting classes, support groups, and similar resources as necessary.
  • Provide transportation of clients as needed using personal or agency vehicles.
  • Prepare reports and documentation necessary to track effectiveness of services provided.
  • Participate in program evaluation activities as necessary.
  • Understand and adhere to confidentiality policies.
  • Coordinate wraparound services effectively with other NAYA Family Center programs and staff.
  • Input data and maintain NAYA and/or contractually required information database systems to track client information.
  • Participate in trainings and meetings to ensure program outcomes are achieved.
