About the Department
Hennepin County Behavioral Health area has an exciting opportunity for two Senior Psychiatric Social Workers to join the team at the Hennepin County Mental Health Center (MHC), a state Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) dedicated to offering wide-ranging mental health and substance use disorder care. The Senior Psychiatric Social Workers will utilize evidence-based interventions to provide individual and group therapy to adults with mental health disorders (MH), substance use disorders (SUD), and complex trauma and psychosocial concerns. These positions provide the opportunity to make a difference in diverse communities and programs, advance health equity, and be part of a department with the mission to strengthen communities by improving the health of individuals and families.

Location and hours:
These positions are located at the Mental Health Center at 2215 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., with the possibility of evenings. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In these positions, you will:
- Conduct biopsychosocial evaluations on individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders, to determine appropriate interventions or treatment, based on the presenting issues, current mental status, and diagnostic impressions.
- Work with individuals seeking substance use disorder services to effectively provide interventions to support their substance use recovery.
- Utilize evidence-based interventions to provide individual and group therapy to adults and/or adolescents with MH disorders, SUD, and complex trauma and psychosocial concerns.
- Continuously assess the needs of individuals served, through interpretation of client interview, collateral information, and clinical and social determinants of health screening tools, with the goal of ensuring interventions are applied that promote the safety and well-being of the client and community, while helping the client to achieve personally identified goals.
- Prepare diagnostic assessment reports, psychotherapy notes, and collateral correspondence using an electronic health record.
- Provide and oversee the coordination of care, for individuals served, to enable and support care pathways for mental health and substance use treatment as well as other resource needs.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team for individuals served, including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychologists, social workers, peers, and other mental health practitioners and professionals, to provide optimal care.
- Participate in quality improvement efforts, including those directed toward anti-racism, equity, and trauma awareness.
Need to have:
- Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field and two or more years of post-master's degree experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
- Qualification as a Mental Health Professional in the state of Minnesota.
- Current licensure, or eligibility for licensure within 6 months in the state of Minnesota, as one or more of the following:
- Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Minnesota Board of Social Work
- Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
Nice to have:
- Experience working with:
- Individuals from diverse populations in race, ethnicity, age, gender, identity, ability, and sexual orientation.
- Individuals with opioid and other SUD.
- The needs and issues of diverse and disenfranchised individuals.
Epic, or another similar electronic health record system.
Multidisciplinary teams and workgroups.
- Adolescents.
- Experience:
- Working in a SUD treatment setting.
- Facilitating group programming.
- In the delivery of evidence-based practices for psychiatric and co-occurring disorders, including individual and group therapy to adults and/or adolescents with MH disorders, SUD, and complex trauma and psychosocial concerns.
- Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC) or ability to obtain either.
- Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish or Somali in addition to English, both verbally and in writing as well as utilizing interpreter services.
