Description
The Hazmat Supply Technician will manage the storage of hazardous materials and will also handle, transport, and dispose of hazardous materials following all local, state, and federal regulations. They will be required to follow strict safety protocols to ensure that they and others are not exposed to potentially harmful substances. The contractor shall receive, store, control, and track the use of all hazardous material at the buildings identified in their designation letter. Will ensure that all activity personnel are trained in the HAZCOM standard and that all supervisors provide training on work-site specific materials, utilized in their shop. Ensure that a typed HAZCOM Plan is centrally located and readily available to all personnel at the activity or shop.
Job Functions:
- Respond to emergency calls involving hazardous materials, assessing the situation upon arrival
- Contain, clean up, and dispose of hazardous materials according to regulations and standard operating procedures
- Operate specialized equipment, such as protective suits, respirators, radiation detectors, and testing instruments
- Maintain and inspect equipment to ensure it is in good working order
- Prepare reports and maintain records of hazardous materials incidents
- Understand and implement emergency response plans
- Train other personnel in proper procedures for handling hazardous materials
- Monitor the transportation of hazardous materials to ensure compliance with safety procedures
- Participate in drills and exercises to maintain proficiency in response procedures
- Perform ongoing education to stay updated on new regulations, safety procedures, and equipment
- Ensure that each activity has a site specific “Spill Plan” and compatible storage of all hazardous material. Will attend all HAZMAT Coordinator training meetings as scheduled.
- Ensure that All HAZMAT coordinators are required to forward copies of their training certificates/class rosters to the COR for the required training programs.
- Ensure that the activities are responsible for completing a hazardous material inventory quarterly report and submit it to the P2 Division. The inventory shall include the following:
1. Trade name
2. National Stock Number (NSN), Global Stock Number (GLSN)
3. Military Specification (MIL-SPEC)
4. MSDS/SDS#
5. Quantity on hand
6. Container size
7. Monthly use rate
8. ERP Barcode serial #, if available
- Ensure that all hazardous material storage locations, cabinets, lockers and rooms are identified, approved and are in good working order at all times. All lockers will be identified with the HAZMAT Coordinators name and contact information on the outside of the locker.
- Ensure that the required initial ‘report of spill forms’ for all spills that occur in the coordinator's area of control
- Transport and store HAZMAT in the designated locations at HMC or organization’s work center. Transport HAZMAT only if qualified and using the proper placard transport vehicle from building to building
- Perform all on-base and off-base deliveries to the customer’s HAZMAT Locker or work center location if certified to transport HAZMAT
- Receive and process customer excess HAZMAT returns as Cost Avoidance (C/A). C/A returns must be unopened, not leaking, not contaminated or mixed, with remaining Shelf-life (Type I), extendable Shelf-life (Type II), with container and label integrity (identifiable).
- Provide Oversight and coordination of personnel; back-up support to fill in during absences; attend Senior Leadership meetings; weekly review of documentation; other direct support to NAWC PAX ISED Hazardous Materials Control & Management Program Manager as needed.
Requirements
- AA or AS degree in Engineering Technology or Electrical Wiring.
- ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTION: High School diploma or GED and two (2) year of experience related to the Functional Description.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Relevant trainings and certifications including but not limited to; HAZCOM, Personal Protection Equipment, MSDS, and/or HAZWOPER.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to learn and apply new information and/or skills. Must be able to interpret data, information, and documents. Occasionally will need to lift/and or move up to 45lbs. Moderate environment temperature and noise level. Occasional Travel may be required. Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day. Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.
