JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Winter Competition Teams Coach – Part-Time, Seasonal
FLSA: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Ski Race Team Manager
SUMMARY: Wintergreen Winter Teams is dedicated to making skiing and snowboarding a lifelong passion for our athletes and their families. Our mission is to develop skilled, confident skiers and snowboarders who not only excel in their sport but are inspired to share that passion with others.
We focus on creating a safe, supportive environment where fun comes first, and competition is a tool for growth rather than the only goal. Guided by a team of experienced coaches, our athletes develop strong technical skills, learn to compete, and build the confidence to perform at their best—on the hill and beyond.
Our program serves over 150 youth athletes each season and relies on a coaching staff of at least 24 dedicated coaches to keep things running smoothly. For the upcoming ski season, we are seeking enthusiastic Introductory, Development, and Competition Coaches for our Race and Freestyle Teams. Whether you ski or snowboard, this is a chance to be part of a dynamic, passionate group and help inspire the next generation of riders.
This is a part-time, seasonal position—perfect for those who love being on the mountain and want to share that joy with others. You’ll join a community of passionate coaches, enjoy the energy of a fun, team-focused environment, and have the opportunity to make a real impact on young athletes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coach and mentor athletes in alignment with Wintergreen Winter Teams’ mission, emphasizing skill development, safety, and fun.
- Lead group training sessions for Introductory, Development, or Competition-level athletes in race or freestyle disciplines.
- Provide positive, constructive feedback to athletes and encourage personal growth on and off the slopes.
- Assist with race-day or event operations, including course setup, athlete management, and event wrap-up.
- Collaborate with other coaches and team leaders to ensure a consistent and supportive learning environment.
- Serve as a role model for sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for fellow athletes, staff, and guests.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Strong skiing or snowboarding skills; ability to demonstrate proper technique at the level you are coaching.
- Previous coaching, instructing, or mentoring experience preferred (but not required for Introductory level).
- Enthusiasm for working with youth and a passion for fostering a love of winter sports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to complete required training and maintain compliance with safety standards.
- Availability to work weekends and select holidays during the ski season.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous race, freeride, competition, or coaching experience.
- Current USSA (U.S. Ski & Snowboard) or PSIA/AASI (Professional Ski Instructors of America/American Association of Snowboard Instructors) certification.
- Prior coaching or instructor certification, or the ability and willingness to complete certification training as required.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S):
- All Winter Competition Team coaches are required to hold — or be willing to obtain — at least an entry-level coaching certification.
Wintergreen supports professional development and encourages coaches to pursue ongoing education and certification to enhance their skills and ensure a safe, high-quality learning environment for athletes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:- Occasionally lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects of up to 50 pounds
