Job Summary
The HSSU/TGI Lab Assistant will support the Principal Investigators (PIs) in carrying out laboratory and geospatial research. This position will assist with day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including preparing experiments, maintaining equipment and supplies, enforcing safety standards, and documenting research outcomes. The role also involves geospatial analyses and preparation of biological organisms and chemical solutions as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Lab Assistant will:
- Support laboratory research under the direction of the Principal Investigators.
- Assist in geospatial data collection, mapping, and analyses.
- Maintain laboratory safety compliance, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Document incidents, maintain accurate experiment records, and ensure all protocols are followed.
- Prepare, clean, and properly dispose of experimental materials according to established procedures.
- Draft and update experimental protocols as directed.
- Monitor and maintain inventory; order laboratory supplies as needed.
- Prepare chemical solutions, media, and maintain biological organisms required for experiments.
- Collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and research partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in a traditional and/or geospatial laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with locating, collecting, and mapping geospatial data.
- Strong attention to detail with accurate documentation skills.
- Reliable transportation.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training as provided by lab leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to follow safety protocols and laboratory procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk up and down stairs and move throughout classrooms and laboratory spaces.
- Ability to lift and move laboratory equipment as needed.
Additional Information
This is a grant-funded position; continued employment is contingent upon external funding.
