SALARY:
This position is funded 100% through Title III federal funding. Title III funds will be used to supplement programs and services offered with federal, state, and local funds, not supplant them. Please note: This position is federally funded through ESSA. Continuation in this role is dependent upon the renewal and availability of the Title III federal funds.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The main objective of the Title III Liaison is to facilitate intake process for English learners, including immigrant children and youth; to improve the communication among school personnel and non-English speaking parents; and to assist in the implementation of English language proficiency assessment and programs for improving the measures of English learners’ (emergent bilingual students) English language proficiency. The duties and responsibilities of the Title III Liaison will include activities as listed in the Federal ESSA Title III Program Guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
? High School Diploma or equivalent
? Typing proficiency of at least 45 WPM required
? Fluency in Spanish and English required for effective communication with families and students
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
?Bilingual, ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish and English required
?Experience in Spanish language translation preferred, primarily working with families of English learners (emergent bilinguals) and community members
?Have cultural awareness and the ability to work with adults whose native language is other than English ?Ability to communicate effectively with parents, present information, and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff, and the general public consistent with the essential duties of the position ?Proficiency with technology including multimedia technology
?Ability to work with groups of English learners (emergent bilinguals) to support academics ?Ability to learn new skills, flexibility, and willingness to perform a variety of tasks ?Works well with others, and follows written and oral directions
?Ability to maintain student confidentiality
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, state and local board policy. STUDENT INTAKE PROCESS
2. Facilitate student intake process by coordinating with campus principal, registrar, teachers, and families of English learners (emergent bilinguals), including immigrant children and youth. 3. Maintains appropriate records of English learner students, including immigrant children and youth as outlined in the Title III program requirements such as English language proficiency and academic progress monitoring.
STUDENT COMMUNICATION
4. Coordinate to provide interpreting services as needed for English learner students, including immigrant children and youth whose English is not their native language.
5. Facilitate communication between school and parents by providing information and support regarding English learners (emergent bilinguals) attendance, testing, disciplinary codes, and other information for future improvement in the development of the student’s social-emotional well-being and academic growth.
STUDENT SUPPORT
6. Support in the implementation of English language proficiency assessment and programs for improving the measures of English learners’ (emergent bilingual students) English language proficiency. 7. Enhance the school’s community resource center to be a welcoming place that invites participation and partnership with parents of English learners (emergent bilinguals), including immigrant children and youth, their parents, families, and community members.
8. Coordinates and collaborates with the Director of Multilingual Programs, principals, teachers, parents, and community members to implement appropriate Title III parental, family, and community activities. 9. Participate in training programs, meetings, and special events, as needed.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Multilingual Programs.
