Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Labor and Delivery (Per Diem)

Arnot Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Labor and Delivery team on a per diem basis. This flexible role offers the unique opportunity to be part of one of the most important and memorable moments in a patient’s life—welcoming a new baby into the world. Under the direction of a registered nurse, the LPN plays a vital role in providing high-quality, patient-focused care during labor, delivery, and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Nursing Process
Deliver safe and compassionate care to assigned patients under RN supervision
Perform systematic data collection and recognize changes in patient status
Implement care plans based on patient needs and priorities
Communicate effectively and promptly with the care team
Technical Skills & Medication Administration
Demonstrate clinical competency in all unit-specific nursing skills
Administer medications and IV fluids safely in accordance with policy
Accurately document all care and interventions using appropriate systems
Patient Education & Support
Identify patient and family education needs and assist in delivering instruction
Ensure privacy and uphold patient rights and dignity at all times
Emergency & Safety
Respond quickly and efficiently in emergency situations following protocol
Adhere to infection control and risk management policies
Professional Development
Engage in ongoing self-directed learning and complete mandatory education
Maintain current BLS certification (ACLS required if working in critical care settings)
Teamwork & Communication
Build effective relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families
Support unit needs by maintaining flexibility in scheduling and productivity
Qualifications
Graduate of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the NYS Education Department or another state authority
Current NYS LPN licensure or eligibility
BLS required within 90 days of hire; ACLS required for critical care
Minimum of one year of clinical experience preferred
Physical ability to assist patients and work on your feet for extended periods
Comfort with exposure to blood and bodily fluids (Exposure Category I)
