We are seeking a Data Business Analyst to be the bridge between our business needs and our data solutions. This role is a key driver in our effort to increase data-informed decision-making, helping various departments leverage data to achieve their goals. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a knack for translating complex business problems into clear data requirements. The Data Business Analyst will collaborate with business units regularly to draft requirements for data requests and product enhancements. The individual in this role will provide requirements for the Business Intelligence Analyst and work with the Director of Data Analytics on prioritization and strategy. This is a collaborative role with the data team to generate insights and recommendations, helping stakeholders make data-informed decisions. They will also play a crucial role in our data governance framework, ensuring the quality and integrity of our data assets.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with stakeholders across all departments to understand their business challenges and identify opportunities for using data and analytics to solve them. Recommending solutions, creating data requests and package stakeholder requirements in the form of product backlog items, following organizational standards for report building. Creating and maintaining documentation, including, converting requirements specifications to a detail design specification or (software design document), writing configuration test plans and summary reports.
- Providing assistance with platform management, in the areas of data architecture support, process mapping and documenting data flows of inter departmental systems. Maintaining data table documentation.
- Serving as an active member of the Data Governance Committee. Participating in the development and enforcement of data policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, security, and usability. Presenting requirements for platform enhancements. Acting as a liaison between the committee and technical teams.
- Creating and develop data visualizations and dashboards, enabling key departmental users to access data autonomously. Communicate with department power users to provide relevant data and analytics to the organization.
- Performing various tasks, including project assignments, responding to outages/interruptions, and maintaining documentation.

- Participates in the evaluation of data tools to help MHV accomplish Data and Analytics Strategy.
- Effectively implements data warehouse implementation.
- Completes integration of data sources (as described in the Data and Analytics Strategy) into the data warehouse.
- Successfully performs the role of liaison and communicates effectively with data and analytics strategy consultant.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the position. Stays informed of current trends affecting the financial services industry; has an overall knowledge of the credit union, its policies and procedures. Continually expands knowledge and develop skills.
Knowledge and Skills:
- One year to three years of similar or related experience.
- Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in Business or Computer Sciences).
- Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
- Understanding of the SDLC. Basic understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies and managing backlogs. Proven experience with a creating design speciation's, requirements elicitation and requirements management skills etc. Report writing and basic statistical analytical skills; Basic SQL querying and development skills. Experience with Tableau Ability to learn on the job and independently. Ability to work in teams and independently.
- Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Normal range of vision and hearing abilities required. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
- Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
- Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
- Work is generally performed within an office environment, primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; standard office equipment available.
