Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Transportation

The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for safely transporting residents to and from medical appointments, ensuring timely arrivals and providing necessary assistance throughout the process. This role also involves performing general environmental tasks to maintain the facility’s efficiency, including supporting daily operations and assisting with upkeep as needed. The coordinator ensures that residents' transportation needs are met while contributing to a clean, organized, and well-functioning environment.

Overview of Role / Essential Job Functions

The primary purpose of this job position is to maintain the facility in good repair and ensure systems are in compliance with applicable safety and fire regulations and federal, state, and local building codes to ensure a safe, comfortable environment.

Resident Rights/ Safety and Sanitation/ Staff Development

Resident Rights

  • Knows and respects patient rights.
  • Ensures all protected health information is kept confidential.
  • Reports all complaints made by patients to supervisor.
  • Reports all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of patient properly.

  • Follows established safety policies and procedures.
  • Observes safety needs of patient as indicated in care plan.
  • Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained to use.
  • Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations.

  • Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes and meetings, including safety committee.

Responsibilities

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance and repair work as defined in the GNS Maintenance Manual including, but not limited to:
  • Prepares a monthly schedule, based on calendar days, for performance of preventive maintenance, striving to allot part of each day to these duties.
  • Conforms to approved budget by ensuring supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste, maintains current written records of department expenditures, and assures that adequate financial records and cost reports are submitted to the Administrator as required.
  • Develops center profile and physical plant history by maintaining complete documentation of maintenance activities including accurate records of replacement parts and materials used.
  • Maintains required logs/documentation on following in accordance with the Life Safety Documentation book and OSHA compliance including but not limited to: fire alarm test reports, smoke/heat detectors, sprinkler inspections, emergency generator logs, range hood suppression systems, fire extinguishers, hood and duct cleaning, door locking devices, water temperatures, water hardness, fire and smoke wall and dampers, fire and smoke doors, fire drills, disaster drills, door alarm drills, flame spread certification, boiler vessel certification, elevator certification, facility service contracts, medical wage manifest, confined space documentation, survey documentation, material safety data sheets, lock out/tag out program.
  • Maintains electrical and mechanical equipment in good working order; Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, lubricate and clean parts as needed. Cleans/changes filters as required based on environment of center.
  • Lubricates potty chairs, wheelchairs, shower chairs, wheeled geri-chairs, drug carts, etc.; Repairs outdoor chairs and benches; Reports serious failures and problems to the Director of Maintenance.
  • Investigates causes of wall/door/frame damage, which might be contributed to protruding bolts etc. on carts, dollies, or chairs and repair problems.
  • Checks light bulbs and exit lights, room temperatures, circuit breakers, temperature in cooler and freezers, and nurse call system and makes necessary adjustments and repairs.
  • Cleans lint, dust, and dirt from dryers, vents, and heat registers; Cleans condenser coils in refrigeration units; Hoses out garbage cans; Washes windows and screens outside the building; Cleans the machines.
  • Checks bedrails, toilet seats, and grab rails for security and proper functioning; Checks windows for presence of screens and glass.
  • Ensures proper functioning of power generator, time clock, exhaust fans, water fountains, toilets, and drains. Balances scales and checks operation of elevators, if applicable.
  • Checks fire extinguishers for correct position, charges, and storage; Test smoke detectors and checks operation of and lubricates fire doors.
  • Implements GNS’ Lockout, Tag-out program.
  • Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required.

Grounds keeping Responsibilities

  • If the following work is contracted, Maintenance staff still responsible for overseeing.
  • Scatters grass seed or lawn and flower seed on bare spots.
  • Plants seeds and bulbs, tree seedlings and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance.
  • Connects sprinkling equipment and water lawn and flower beds (maintains automatic system if applicable).
  • Sprays lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizers or insecticides.
  • Racks and bags leaves and grass clippings.
  • Removes snow and clears ice from sidewalks and walkways.
  • Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required.

Education/ Experience/ Physical Demands

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Training and/or expertise qualifying the individual to operate and maintain the electrical and mechanical systems.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting 60 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, moving, and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 60 pounds; Exerting considerable force frequently, and/or intermediate force constantly to move objects and residents. Reaching, handling, talking, hearing, visual near acuity, bending, stooping, and walking.

  • Both inside and outside including wet and humid conditions; also includes working in conditions involving noise and vibration.

  • Works with elderly residents, families, and other health care staff members

Qualifications


Job qualifications for the Transportation and maintenance role include a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and the ability to obtain a chauffeur’s license. A high school diploma or equivalent is also required.
