JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, nonprofit management, or related field. (preferred)
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in volunteer management, preferably in a healthcare or hospice setting.
Knowledge of hospice philosophy and end-of-life issues.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft office, Volunteer management software, ability to multitask, resolving conflicts and other challenging problems.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Completion of Food Safety Management Certification through ‘Safe Foods’ (renewal requirement, every 5 years)
SKILLS, DUTIES, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:
Volunteer Program Development and Oversight
-Develop and manage the hospice volunteer program in alignment with organizational goals and Medicare Guidelines.
-Supervision of Volunteer Coordinators
-Assess hospice volunteer needs and match volunteer skills and interests with appropriate assignments.
-Maintain accurate records of volunteer assignments, hours, and performance.
-Cultural sensitivity and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Empathy and emotional intelligence.
Recruitment and Training
-Recruit a diverse pool of volunteers through community outreach, partnerships, and marketing efforts.
-Conduct orientation and training programs to prepare volunteers for roles in patient care, bereavement support, administrative assistance, and special events.
-Provide ongoing education and support to ensure volunteer competence and engagement.
Supervision and Support
-Serve as the primary point of contact for Volunteer Coordinator, secondary volunteers.
-Offer regular supervision, recognition, and feedback to promote volunteer satisfaction and retention
-Address volunteer concerns and resolve conflicts as needed.
-Oversight duties to ensure necessary stock and kitchen maintenance.
-Oversight duties to ensure volunteer schedules are up to date and ensure coverage.
Compliance and Documentation
-Ensure volunteer program meets accreditation standards, Medicare Conditions of Participation (Direct vs Indirect patient hours)
-Ensure Volunteers records are up to date in the EMR or volunteer management system. Attention to detail and meeting deadlines
-Prepare reports on volunteer activity for leadership.
-Food Safety Management Certification
Collaboration and Community Engagement
-Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team members to integrate volunteers into patient care plans.
-Coordinate with the Care Center interdisciplinary team members to integrate volunteers into patient care plans.
-Represent the organization at community events to promote the volunteer program.
-Foster partnerships with local schools, churches and community groups.
All other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Very active position including lifting and moving of purchased goods, set up at events, driving, shopping and ability to stand for long periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Combination of office work, In-Patient units, kitchen, shopping at retail vendors.
Field visits to patient homes, nursing facilities and community sites.
Occasional evening or weekend hours for training and events. Day shifts with holidays and on-call coverage
Must be able to work independently and collaboratively. Must be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to travel by car to several locations while exposed to Florida weather year-round.
