We are an organisation of 2,000 employees in the UK, headquartered in London, in a brand-new office designed with sustainability, ‘conviviality’ and collaboration in mind. We also have offices in Scotland and various distilleries and production sites across the UK from Plymouth to London to Speyside.
Your new team
This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers, our 1,600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future, as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.
The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is delivered. In addition, Operations play a very active role in Innovation, Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.
Our bottling halls are based at our Kilmalid Campus, bottling historic brands such as Glen Livet, Beefeater, Chivas and Ballantine’s, the focus on quality is paramount. In addition to Quality Focus, we put Safety First above anything else whilst we deliver our customer’s expectations and business targets in efficiency and cost. Your unique contribution
The Factory Manager is accountable for leading high-performing teams, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the bottling facility. This role is responsible for delivering excellence across Safety, Environment, Quality, Cost, Customer Service, and Employee Engagement, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
You will have four main areas of responsibility:
Operational Excellence & Performance Delivery
- Accountable for all operations and activity within the area and overall delivery of Customer Service, Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and cost targets for the Bottling.
- Ensure performance information is tracked and recorded on the appropriate systems with appropriate actions agreed and executed.
- Prepare, monitor & control an annual budget, while also minimising cost through efficient running of production and deliver operational cost reduction via improvement projects, routinely reporting on the Factory P&L via the rolling forecast monthly finance forums.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Driving our Lean Manufacturing / CI Programme across the bottling hall and all teams.
- Lead and coach teams and individuals to continuously improve process performance through the effective use of data, application of problem-solving techniques, and experimental learning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Delivery
- Effective co-ordination and collaboration with other departments, in to ensure successful delivery of manufacturing projects and resolution of problems.
- Successfully manage the introduction of New Products and Design for Manufacturing initiatives through the Hall.
People Leadership & Development
- Set goals and objectives for the bottling hall team and manage performance and talent reviews through annual campaigns.
- Ensure the effective delivery of agreed training and development programmes.
- Ensure effective team working and a high level of employee engagement is in place.
Who you’ll be working with
Internally, you’ll collaborate with teams across the Manufacturing function including Materials & Logistics, Quality, Customer Services, New Product Development and Continuous Improvement.
Externally, you will collaborate with suppliers and regulatory organisations to ensure delivery of services to the highest standard.
Your blend of talent
This position could be right for you if you:
- Have significant management experience in Bottling Industry or other FMCG environment, along with a degree or equivalent qualification/experience in a Production or Engineering discipline.
- Can provide leadership which directs and focuses the contribution of others, with the ability to provide coaching to upskill factory and supporting teams.
- Have strong influencing skills: up, down and laterally, across stakeholders from various departments.
- Have good knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and be committed to continuous improvement.
- Are able to demonstrate a quality and customer-focused approach to problem-solving and decision making.
- Have financial and commercial awareness, with knowledge of control techniques and good experience in the use of budgetary systems.
