Data Technical Analyst

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Technical Analyst on a fixed term basis until August 2026 (home based).

Who we are

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £33 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.

Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focussing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.

The Role

Within this role you will be required to act as a data specialist and be a key liaison between the Data Team, other Railpen teams and external suppliers for all pension related data matters to ensure that the data used and provided by Railpen is accurate and consistent.

The Person

The successful applicant would have excellent analytical abilities and strong problem-solving skills. Pensions’ knowledge would be a distinct advantage, as would knowledge of the rules of the railway pension arrangements that Railpen administer, albeit full training will be provided. An understanding of the integration of GMPs would also be an advantage.

You will be able to take an analytical approach to understanding and collating data, looking to identify potential anomalies and communicating key information surrounding the data to relevant stakeholders. Ideally, you’ll be a confident and experienced user of Microsoft Excel, capable of reviewing and manipulating data and produce advanced reports, whilst presenting complicated data in an easily understandable format.

The role requires an effective communicator who is comfortable collaborating with a variety of stakeholders at all levels, cross-functionally, with external suppliers and within the team. We are looking for someone who can both keep themselves motivated and take a proactive approach, whilst also being an effective member of a small team. You will be keen to learn and develop best practice and identify innovative solutions to maximise efficiencies and processes within the team.

Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They’re what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of ‘fair challenge’, align to the best interests of our members.
