About the role:
Hancock Iron Ore is a leading iron ore producer in Western Australia, committed to operational excellence, safety, and innovation. We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Manager Engineering to join our Asset Management team in Perth.
Reporting to the Head of Asset Management, you will provide technical leadership, governance and assurance to our Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Rail engineering functions, setting the direction for best practice and supporting Roy Hill to meet its business targets. You will be the discipline lead for the business, ensuring technical standards are maintained and that engineering issues are resolved efficiently and effectively.
Duties:
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for the development, maintenance, and governance of HIO’s engineering standards and specifications.
- Provide expert technical support to operations (Port, Rail, Processing, and Mine), ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of operational plans.
- Act as the discipline lead across all engineering streams, setting consistent expectations and ensuring best practice is embedded across the business.
- Set and communicate the strategic direction for engineering practice, ensuring consistency and quality across all engineering disciplines.
- Provide expert input into asset management activities and strategies, particularly for complex and high-risk assets, supporting lifecycle management and risk mitigation.
- Develop and implement training and development programs to upskill site-based engineering and maintenance teams, ensuring competency and compliance with standards.
- Manage the governance of statutory inspection programs for asset integrity, ensuring all legal and regulatory obligations are met.
- Lead audits to ensure compliance with HIO’s engineering standards and specifications, and drive corrective actions where required.
- Provide Engineering support during significant incidents that cannot be resolved at the site level, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Proactively manage and mitigate engineering risks through early engagement with operations, risk teams, external consultants, and regulators.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil engineering (or equivalent)
- Previous experience leading a multidisciplinary Engineering function
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in large-scale heavy industry.
- Strong background in asset management, operations and maintenance.
- Advanced problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical issues.
- Sound knowledge of mining operations across the full value chain (pit to port).
