About The Team

The School of Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences is involved in a diverse range of activities across the biomedical, medical diagnostic, food science and nutrition, molecular and forensic science fields. Key research areas include infectious disease, anti-microbial resistance, immunology, cancer biology, microbiology, forensic biology, food science and human nutrition. The School offers engaging and dynamic undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is committed to delivering high-quality educational experience for all students.

Your New Role!  

In this position, you will contribute to or provide leadership in the Food Science and Nutrition program, while supporting academic excellence, research, scholarly research outputs and professional activities relevant to the field. You will also be responsible for teaching within the discipline, supervising of Honors and postgraduate students and performing a range of administrative and service functions within the school and across the University. You will also have the opportunity to teach in the state-of-the-art Murdoch Food Centre located in Nambeelup.

Your key responsibilities will include –

  • Coordinate, develop, design, and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate units; supervise Honours, Masters by Coursework and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and provide academic advice and support to foster inclusive and engaging learning environments.
  • Undertake individual and collaborative research to produce high-quality publications; apply for research grant funding; contribute to the management and leadership of research projects; and engage with industry and external stakeholders to build partnerships and advance the interests of the School and University.
  • Actively contribute to the School, University, professional community, and discipline; participate in the University’s Annual Career Development Conversation (ACDC); and undertake other duties as directed by the Head of School.

Additional responsibilities for Level C position:

  • Provide academic and research leadership
  • Lead coordination and design of units
  • Make substantial contribution to service within the School and University

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • A PhD in an area relevant to appointment.
  • Experience in teaching in the discipline area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction only, exercise initiative in undertaking responsibilities and work effectively as a team member.
  • Awareness of contemporary approaches to curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Evidence of producing high quality independent research outputs that have national/international impact, including recent publications of significance.
  • Evidence of success in attracting research funding.
  • Experience in the supervision of Honours, Masters, or HDR students.
  • Demonstrated industry links and ability to engage external stakeholders in teaching and research collaborations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary and collegial team.
  • Demonstrated high levels of written and oral communication skills in English.

Additional Requirements for Level C Position:

  • Significant experience in teaching in the discipline area.
  • Demonstrated experience in the independent coordination of units and in developing curriculum.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary approaches to curriculum and pedagogy.
  • A track record of success in producing high quality independent research outputs that have national/international impact, including recent publications of significance.
  • A track record of success in attracting research funding.
  • Experience in successfully supervising Honours, Masters, and HDR students to completion.
