Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week.  This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week.  This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues.  Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

WestJet is currently seeking a Corporate Accountant to support our Finance team. The successful candidate must exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoys problem solving, and takes personal initiative. Working closely with fellow Finance team members and departmental stakeholders, this role is responsible for various aspects of the accounting cycle, with a special focus on salaries and benefits accounting.

 

Key deliverables include:

  • Perform detailed accounting and reporting activities on a recurring basis to support an accurate and timely period-end close, including:
    • Posting monthly accruals, reclasses and other journal entries
    • Completing balance sheet reconciliations reconciling GL to source reporting, and investigating any anomalies to expectation
    • Preparing balance sheet and income statement variance analysis on historical actuals on monthly and quarterly basis
  • Continuously improve processes and procedures to evolve month-end deliverables alongside technology and operational changes
  • Review junior team members work including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis.
  • Actively partner with various teams across the organization to assist with ad-hoc reporting, analysis, projects, and decision support as required
  • Work with Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) to facilitate forecast and budget preparation
  • Be an active member of the Finance team and be flexible in completing any task
  • Ensure compliance with C-Sox requirements, including maintaining and improving controls documentation and processes

 

 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must have a post-secondary degree in a related field (i.e. Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting or Finance);
  • Must have completed a professional accounting designation (CPA); 
  • Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an accounting role, with progressive levels of responsibility
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and a keen interest in learning new technology
  • Possess strong communication skills to build collaborative relationships with business partners and to provide guidance & instruction to peers in the organization
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight timelines in a fast paced and evolving environment
  • Proficiency in JDE or other similar ERP experience would be considered an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, with a strong desire for continuous improvement
